Hilux Starter Chatters

Starter motor on 99 Hilux. Rapid clicking when try to start , after waiting it will usually start - sometimes 30 mins! Had problem year ago, cleaned contacts on solenoid. Fixed. Problem re-occured so this time I replaced contacts and plunger. Worked for a few days and now problem has started again.

I probably was on the wrong track with the solenoid contacts as a bad connection there will cause a single click and no turnover - this multiple clicking "chatter" is a different issue - maybe my fiddling just affected somthing else.

Don't think its Battery or connection issue as when it does turn over its very fast.

Thinking it might be someting to do with the holding circuit in the solenoid but can't understand why its intermittent.

Anyone got any ideas.
