Is A Gearbox Input Shaft Oil Seal Leak Common At 55K 6Yrs Old?

Hi

I've just taken a 6 yr old Avensis D4D in for its 60k service and been told the gearbox input shaft oil seal is leaking. Its contaminated the clutch and possibly damaged the flywheel. The oil sump is leaking too and over £2000 is being asked to fix the lot!

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm very disappointed given the cars age and low mileage and Toyotas reputation for quality and reliability...

Also is this a fair price for the work? Mostly seems to be labour to take gearbox aprt and re-assembly.

Many thanks for any advice....

It was the Toyota dealership where I bought the car and had it serviced that quoted the price. They did call Toyota UK about a goodwill gesture but were told no as its over 5 yrs old. The dealers given me the contact details and ref number but I'd like to find out what is reasonable for me to expect before I call Toyota Uk myself

If the car has only 60k on the clock and you've bought and had the services done at the dealership! I'd expect them to be really pushing this one for you!!! Put it this way... I have a 2003 Polo and VW are going 70% for me and my car has 212k on the clock and only serviced upto 30k by main dealer!...
