2005 Xt5: Cost Of New Clutch/dmf?

I will shortly need a new clutch/dmf for my 2005 RAV4 2.0 Diesel. I was told by my Toyota dealer that it would cost £1700!!! Is this correct? Is it worth looking around for a cheaper garage or , save up and use Mr T?

Mileage:48,000. On pulling away, I get vibrations; changing up into 2nd, 3rd etc is fine.

I get these vibrations pulling away, but only when cold and only for around the 1st 5 gear changes...

Mines been like this of 2 years though.........

after that its ok??

more noticable when cold or when the car has stood for a while.

Im on 85K now

Thanks jedi134. For two years you say!!. Perhaps mine is n't as urgent as I thought! I only do about 7000 miles per year.

It was last service (April) Mr T said the very early signs of the clutch going were detected and that it it could last for 10 000 - 20000 miles. At this time I was quite shocked as I had n't felt anything untoward myself!; but for the past few weeks i have felt vibrations when moving away in 1st but nothing after. Just to be forearmed I was wandering if Mr T's quote (£1700) is realistic. Thanks for your thoughts.

I do similar milage to you also.....mine goes away when warned up though, does yours?

Have you read the pinned bit on the DMF, I don't have those symptoms, ball bearing noises etc.....maybe there still to come :D

Mr T will always be expensive, I'm sure someone said £600 to fit a SMF

Does the £600 include a new clutch etc? Just curious as mine is fine at the moment.

I think so the whole SMF kit, read it on here somewhere? that price was with fitting too from what i remember...

LUK are the suppliers of Original Equipment clutches on the Rav4... You may just about get the labour for 400 quid.....

LUK are standard fit kit Mate.. Also fitted to Fords... Likely the best on the market.. Dont know about any of the other makes. I would go LUK every time !!

Excellent, some more great info from Jedi and especially from Charlie. Perhaps this will calm my nerves as every time I feel the slightest judder from the car I see £1700 flash before my eyes!
