Oil Leaking From Bar Coded Plug On Left Side

Hi All

I was looking at the top of the engine on my Diesel 2.2 150, 08 plate, and noticed some oil pooling around the left most plug. (The things with the bar codes on the top.)

Not a lot of oil... but I wiped it away, and checked a week later. Sure enough, more oil was present. (See attached photo.) Looks like it runs down the back/left of the engine.

What is this plug thing? Is it the injector? Glow plug? Or something else?

Why would it be leaking? What can I do about it?

Thanks very much - Jimbob

Does anyone know why this might be leaking?

Thanks - Jimbob

I took a few more photos. The little pool of oil has come back around the base of the bar coded plug thing.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thats a fuel injector mate! You sure thats not diesel? Have a smell of the stuff! Its more likely to be a seal thats gone!

  • 4 weeks later...

So a few weeks more, and a little more 'leakage.

It's definitely oil. Not diesel. I took a 'kitchen roll swab' just now... take a look at the attached.

So what am I looking at? A simple seal? Or something more evil (aka expensive)?

As far as I can see, it could be engine oil getting past the oil control ring. Have you had a compression test done on the cylinders?

I'm not famiiar with this particular model but would be surprised if it was oil making its way into the cyclinder past the oil control ring and then out of the cylinder onto what appears to be your rocker cover. I would also be surprised if it was evaporated oil condensing on the cover as there don't seem to be any vents nearby and that cover will be hot in use so condensation is unlikely. Looking at your photo I see that you oil filler cap is on this cover. I suspect that the valve gear is underneath it. If so it is probably just a bit of oil seepage making its way past a seal and onto the cover. I wouldn't worry too much just now. Clean it up if it bothers you and continue to check your oil level - but this amount doesn't even qualify as a leak. Just seepage. TUMO. Top Up, Motor On.

  • 3 years later...

Do you remember what was it and how did they fix it?

My car is exactly the same. I'm getting white smoke in the morning at first start and the first start is a bit long. It takes like 3-4 seconds....

One morning I started the engine, turned it off after 5 seconds and even then, white smoke came out for about 8-10 seconds.... Scarry

What can it be the reason for this?
