Locking Wheel Nuts.....

Hi guys,

Im after a few suggestions here. Some so called mechanic did my locking wheel nuts (standard Toyota crap) up too tight and warped my key in the process. I just picked up my newly ordered key from toyota (£18) and i cant budge the nuts it just keeps popping off the locking wheel nut. The new key is now in just as bad a condition as the old one. Does anyone know if there is a more industrial strength key available or if there is any other ways of getting these things off. I have a puncture and need to put the spare on.....

Thanks in advance.

I'd take it back and see the monkey that did it and tell him to get it off as he'd fu@ked it in the 1st place!... Oh... And give me £18 to buy another one! :boxed:

I should see if you can find one or two locking nut removal tools from a friendly mechanic if you can and use their muscle to help you undo the difficult one ,failing that I had the same problem and had to drill mine out ,new stud was cheap from Toyota though under £4 if i remember , after removing the caliper for better access i chilled the stud, made it easier to pull through, all takes a bit of time thats the only real probelm. Get your self some cheap after market locking wheel nuts and and dont tighten them up much afterwards it does not take much to strip locking wheelnut heads.

If the above fails, Agree Again!

  • 2 weeks later...

I had this problem with my old car (and Astra SRi, I now have an Avensis Tourer BTW) I ended up binning the lock nuts and just used normal nuts. I wasnt too bothered about the added security as it was only standard wheels alloys that where on it.

Straight back to the guy who messed them up, definitely. If only to watch him try to squirm his way out of it. After that, if he wont help, go seek some professional help, preferably from someone who comes recommended. Mistermena might be able to help you there.
