As I have mentioned on the "water leaks" thread, my boot button was sticking (known Aygo fault according to Toyota) and as my Aygo Sport is an 06 there is no chance of getting it done on warranty.

So I decided to do it myself. I bought the part and purchased the two vents with the upgraded seals (another known fault) so that I could replace them whilst I had the back bumper off (a requirement for the replacement of the button).

The repair to the button was easy, took a few minutes, no problem. The problem was getting to it!

The rear bumper is not easy to remove. I took out the outer screws and the two bottom pegs and removed the two buffered screws but the bumper didn't budge!

I knew there were clips and I knew roughly where they were (12 along the light cluster and down the outer edge of the bumper and 2 in the centre either side of the boot lock) but it took two of us about 40mins starting gently and ending up forcing the thing off with brute force!

Anyway in the end we did it and fixed the lock and even though those two rear vents hadn't leaked in the seals were not seated and were hanging down so it was a good job that I bought them.

Does anyone know a clever way of releasing those pesky clips?

If they are push on clips you can get a tool for them - google "door panel clip removal tool". Or you can use a fork with the tines pushed to form a 'V'.

A different type of clip. Here is a diagram from a workshop disc, the clips are an integral part of the bumper and the slots are an integral part of the rest of the bodywork. Niether are visible and you need to cover the light clusters and bodywork with tape whilst sticking some kind of tool in between them to prize them apart.

Not easy!
