Hai David, and bob809,

Yes it is going to happen. In a little place way in the east of Holland, near the German border, in the north, in the province of Groningen, it will happen.

The place is called Bourtange... no cars allowed.. but some exceptions can be made, so I hope we are driving through this very old fortification.

We stay in a hotel (different place) from the Saturday 14-04-2012 to Sunday 15-04-2012. The meeting is on the Sunday, but the fun starts in the hotel at arrival in the aria (I do hope).

Not known at this moment is exactly what we will do... but a meeting with a "Hunebed" is in the possibilities.. Here some explanation what a "Hunebed" is: http://www.hunebedden.nl/ndrenthe.htm

And here you see one.. with a bike in front of it... http://iqforum.nl/fi...its-hunebed.jpg

At this moment 6 people have announced that they are coming ... maybe this will be 7 iQ forum-members.

My house (if you want to stay over David) is about a 3,5 hours drive away from there... but if you manage to come you can stay over at our house.

You are more than welcome!!!! Both of you... We have some guest rooms...

Although the space inside has become a little smaller.. due to the dying of my father on 11-Januari-2012 and having to empty and divide his Atelier. All very emotional.

We had to do this before March the first and we succeeded / his atelier had to be empty on March the 1st. ..

But it has had a large strain on Marion and I... we did the most work. I mean I do have 2 sisters and a brother. But the do not have "ellbowgrease"..

He was a productive paint-artist .. so our house is now at the moment overfull with paintings and drawings..

PS

He had arrived at the age of 88 years... had a bad heart / + new hart valves... and died on a day he was giving lessens to people who take class in learning to work with paint materials... so actually during the thing he like the most!!!.

But ... nevertheless it has been a very emotional time these last weeks...

Greets,

Peter

Hi Peter, I am very sorry to hear of the passing away of your father. I am really upset that I can't make that weekend as i am on a cruise and won't be back in the UK until late afternoon 15th April. I was so liking forward to coming over and meeting you. Maybe later in May or June I can come over for a couple of days if thats ok with you.

So sorry to hear about your recent loss Peter. As you say, at least he was doing something he loved. 88 years is very good, hope I make it that far.

I asked about the date David mentioned as there were 'rumblings' of a meet being organised here in the UK. I too would love to come out and meet with fellow iQ fans, however, I just plain can't afford it. Thank you for the invite all the same. Much appreciated. The invite is offered to you both -Peter & David- to come over here too if you wish, just not at the same time, although, there are places to stay around here that are quite good.

We have one spare bedroom, lovely countryside too. We live in what the government call an Area of Natural Beauty. Maybe that's why the B'stards want to put up 50m high electricity pylons (they're still looking into it) and a windfarm down the road with 8 sodding wind turbines!

But they are not guaranteed yet.

If I get lucky with the lottery, you can bet I'd be over to say Hello, in the iQ of course, not my new Maserati Quattroporte... ahem.

Its a ploy, you want me to clean your car for you while watch from the window.lol

Close, but no Cigar. You could make a few changes to our car, like the dash lights, interior lights, and so on... but if you insist on cleaning the car also, fair do's. We'll keep you supplied in cuppa's of course. Ha, ha! LOL. ROTFLMAO. I think that's enough. It wasn't a ploy, but now you mention it... I feel like Baldrick with a cunning plan.

But, in all seriousness, the thought had not crossed my mind. It was late, and my brain doesn't work that well at the best of times. ;)

That would be a great thing David (or anybody else as a matter of fact) .. we live just outside Amsterdam and south of Koog aan de Zaan, with it's windmills, and next to the NorthSea-coast... and a lot of green to walk.

Look it up on Googlemaps, and look voor houses in the Dinkellaan in the place called Heemstede... It's really lovely where we live (ha, considering we live in the very busy populated aria of Holland...ha ha )...

Anyways... you are welkom.. (hmm did I say that already?)

Peter

PS Thanks very for the condeleances... Fortunately he died doing whta he liked most.. while working... But I really thought he would be over 90 years old. He has a sister that just passed away being 96 years old. And another sister that still live and has reached the age of 98... OMG...Yes...

So his family has a tradition of becoming very old. 88 is also a very nice age... yes..

Dear Bob,

In what part of Ireland do you live? Can you give me a place-name or one ion the neighborhood of it? So I can have a go on GoogleMaps...

And many thanks for your offer.... Long ago I have worked in the Harbor of Dublin (student work) and lived in Dunloghaire (not sure the name.. sounded like "dunnlierie" / all your place-names we can not pronounce.. ha ha) on a dredging-boat from a Dutch dredging company. It was vacationwork, cause my father worked as a "wet" Engineer .

But we also went to the Wicklow Mountains and we even drove up to those 6 cornered stone things way up in the north.. Was a very nice time...

Actually it's the path of Finn McCool and it's in Ulster not Ireland...

I remember those very nice pubs in Ireland... the music.. throwing penny's on the floor in a pub... that was fun...

But to us ... and the rest of the world... Ireland / Ulster AND THEN Wales / Scotland / GreatBrttain / England / United Kingdom and what have you... is very very confusing...

AND.. I would like to see your Maserati... hi hi

Very sorry to hear of your loss and I know what you are going through. I lost my Mum, Dad and Grandmother all in the space of 14 months. The sad thing is, my Grandmother out lived her 2 children. She died last year at the age of 99.

Sorry Peter, I don'i live in Ireland. I did two six week tours over there, Bessbrook in Newry back in 1980, went through Belfast Airport, but have never 'lived' there, not in this lifetime anyway. No, I live in the West Midlands of England, a county called Shropshire, and I live in the southern part of that right near the Welsh border. Try SY21 8JQ (*) in Google Earth. You will see our house, number 1, with a silver and a white Renault in the drive/carport -previous tenants'. The house looks small from the front, but inside is like the Tardis... well, okay it's not but it feels bigger inside. The view however is fantastic, we think it is anyway. It's so quiet too, and I need that to get that monkey called stress off my back.

If I get the Maserati, you can have a drive in it... :driving:

I didn't know you were that close to Schiphol Airport, I've been through there a few times, and Vlissingen Ferry port too.

* Okay Peter, I missed out the 'look for Groton Farm Road' part of that. Apple-Ogies.*

And if you ever plan on coming by plane in Schiphol Airport... Just give a call and I can pick you up. From our house it is about 20 minutes (or 15 + speeding ticket)...

By train it's also very short by... but then I have to take the train to Den Haag first and then back to Amsterdam Airport...

And thanks for the update of your house!! Top...

You are right there Peter. No parent should outlive their children. My Gran was with us as my Mum took her last breath. She bent over and kissed her and said goodbye. My Gran was 98. It was so emotional.

Yes .. it is not possible to fill in anything else ... Like Holland or "The Netherlands"....

Wow... and respect David ... (high five) ... that was a nice time... those were the days... We (with my parents) lived in Zandvoort.... very long time ago though ... Moved in 1971 to Utrecht to study on the Veterinary University. Was there not also something like "Radio Noordzee" ? With television... ??

This:

Radio Veronica was een zeezender die van 1960 tot en met augustus 1974 uitzond vanaf de Noordzee met programma's gericht op Nederland.

Meaning that is was from 1960 till August 1974.... You are then also a "baby-boomer" .. :-) and <3....

Sorry Peter, I didn't get what you meant before. Now I see what you mean, about the UK/Ireland text under my avatar. Now I understand why you thought I lived in Ireland. I don't know why I didn't understand, but there you go. I'm a dumbass! :euro:

Having owned both, lets just say I kept the Smart car for 3 months wheras I have had my IQ for 3 years and counting!!

Posted before reading the whole thread, sorry to hear of your loss

I would say, having only test driven then IQ but owned a Smart Passion Cab that the decision is down to whether you want a convertible - if you do, and you can live with only 2 seats, then you have to have the Smart, if your not so worried about roof down motoring then I would say get the IQ.

The Smart might be a Mercedes but the IQ feels a league above in quality - maybe a Lexus?

Posted

Ha ha ... grinning ... "a Lexus my dear man ......" :euro:

[You are sooo right] ...

In Holland there are NO more Smart Centers... you have to go to a Mercedes Dealer ... they are not very keen themselves about their Smart ...

Luckily today it's so that now we have Smart Specialists ... way better and way cheaper ... there are about 3 in the whole of Holland...

I was very and I do mean VERY tempted to go for a Smart over the iQ as I was being messed around like you wouldn’t believe trying to get a decent test drive. By decent I mean more than just a run up the road, in the end the iQ I bought was all the way up on the other side of Ipswich, 20 mins doing some town, bit of national speed limit and a couple of country lanes, so nothing I wouldn't expect when buying any car.

The build quality of the iQ I found to be better, but the engine in the Smart was/is more lively, has more urgency about it and as for the Brabus flappy paddles. :D

Fish

The Smart does have turbo, so I would expect it to be more lively. The iQ3 goes fairly well though.

Posted

Have to say that the Brabus Smart has the nicest steering wheel I have ever had my hands on, however for #15,000 it should do!
