Carrying Capacity - Up It With A Carux

I beg your pardon! http://www.carux.com...en&cur=eur&ag=1 Check this site out. I reckon this has to be a goer, eh! EH? A Goer? Most cars can take things like Thule roof boxes, but I'm not sure there's one to fit the iQ. This however is so much better (aside from it will get really filthy stuck back there). Easy to fit and take off, looks secure and if a motorbike-ist hits the back, at least their head should be safer, maybe. A great buy if you go places and need that extra storage.

Peter, I'm thinking of you here mate. Also, T1mmy might be interested on his trip to Norway was it?

At least it wont cause any drag related speed issues. Might even help a little.

I agree on that one, but then it would be taken off and carried around/wheeled around if necessary. I thought about Peter's metal box for the back of his car. A novel idea, but cumbersome and it sticks out a lot, even though it is a good idea. Whereas, with the Carux, it's less time to set up and so on. Each to their own of course. I don't expect I would need one, and at the price I wouldn't be getting one, just travel lighter. It's another way of carrying more stuff than you need. We're encouraged to buy these things at great expense, but how often would you use it? Once or twice a year? A little more often maybe? Why not hire one?

A business opportunity for someone, hiring out CARUX, Thule, and other branded carrying contraptions. Could be a nice little seasonal earner for somebody?

Yeah see, Dan has it covered. Aerodynamic device that carries luggage, and it might just keep that rear screen clear...

It will also help remove any grip that the front wheels have so not always good. :(

Thanks Bob, Yes I have seen these... but way too expensive IMO... thats why I made one myself...

For the Smart .. there is a Bicycle holder .. and I made a very cheap Plastic box so it could fit and hold on top of this, with hooks... This is completely waterproof...

Although very high up to load.. :-( Do not use it very much... With the Smart the front weels do tend to have less grip.

For the iQ...Got a "flight-case" for 2 Monitor secondhand... it's made from light plywood... NOT water proof but water-resisted for some time.. And the carrying-thing is made from an old bicycle-rack-holder-thing.. metal off and some holding bars of wood...

If I wood make it again, I would use lighter materials...

For the grip I have put these coil-rubbers in the springs in the rear.

So ....

Well I also have one on the Smart....

Here: 20090923_19.jpg

And this weekend... friend meeting.. with sleeping gear and walking shoes... plenty of room...

If you look carefully you can see the rear camera mounted just back of the box.. on the carrying-thing...

The capacity of the amount of material one can carry with it is now restricted to 21,5 kilograms.. due to the max weight possibility of the total carryingcapacity of the tow-bar... wich is 52,5 kilograms MAX.

I would be worried about the box on the Smart coming off due to drag, but can see the merits of both carrying box's. Like I have said before, you are very ingenious. Do you carry Bar-B-Que stuff in the metal box on the iQ? Cooled beers! Ah! Of course, lots of ice and beer, with snacks/sandwiches right? By the way, I found your house on Google Earth. Very nice, nice area too. As you say, lots of green. Between the railway and the N208. Nice house.

Ha ha ... thanks... I do think beer ánd ice... would way too much (ice) .. but only beer will do... + 2 bags of chips... ha ha

I live in 16 ànd 14.. (2 houses ... I have 16 and my wife has 14) Exact location is : 52.345568, 4.603467 I do not know how to put this in Googlemaps... but this is what it says..

You can see my former Toyota Previa in the driveway...

About the Smart... there are two metal thingies that hold the top of the bicycle-rack... And YES they tend to bend of I drive around with a bicycle ... that realy sticks out .. upwards... So a mega force on the metal... when going fast...

The metal holders are here: 20090923_19-1-1.jpgAnd the clip that holds this on to the car-body is here... this is the weak spot... it tends to bend...and then the glas cannot open...20090923_19-2.jpg
