Page Scrolling Problems

just a little update on this topic.......

I use various devices to access this forum, one being the Samsung Galaxy TAB Android tablet. That - or at least my example of it - is total pants in terms of constant random crashing, and I had enough of it and got myself an iPad tablet instead last weekend and use that now to access the forum in the evenings and away from home.

Anyway, the performance of the Forum is a lot better on the iPad and I am not losing post inputs in the same way (though still tricky without a mouse to click!), and I have to assume that is due to the fact that Apple refuse to support Adobe Flash.

I find flash generally annoying so might see if I can configure a browser on the PC to disable Flash and see what happens there :)

Agreed - Flash is a invention of the devil . . . I use Firefox with Flashblock installed so I get to choose If I want to allow any flash to run on pages I visit.

Page scrolling isn't a problem here

Don't have a clue what "FLASH" IS, bar the fact a homosexual one is a Scottish Country Dance......A Gay Gordon, but just downloaded and installed the relevant blocker for Firefox, and now scrolling is working almost perfectly for the first time since the Forum "upgrade"....cheers Amfony....glad you joined and bought a Rav.

As soon as you start typing in the black box, the text is auto saved. If it crashes for some reason you will find your message saved and you access it just at the top of the typing pain.

The 'Typing Pain' is right ! TBH, the saved message has NEVER been retrieved for me. Maybe works in certiain browsers only? [EDIT: Just lost all my text after 30 minutes of typing my front mudflap thread - lucky I periodically did my own own clipboard copy and just lost the last 5 minutes worth!!]

Over time the new forum has got more usable, but it really is not a patch on the old design for useability, but it is what it is and we are where we are.

If there anyway that i can stop the blue servicing advert boxes from popping up at the top & right of my screen.

As it seems to take several seconds for my system to decide where to put them.

Then it takes a few more seconds for the wording to appear in full.

Then i can scroll.........slowly.

In that slot at top of my screen,to the left of ' refresh ' ,my blue square is broken in half........:help:

I've got 3 showing on mine but I guess thats how the forum pays for itself.

Rambs, are you using a laptop? If so go to the power settings in the control panel and set it for maximum performance.

Hoovie, on my PC I use an add-on for Firefox called FlashBlock, and it works great. Pages with Flash load much faster, and I can still click on any Flash element I want to run. You can add exceptions to allow Flash to run on certain pages, and the version I use can block Silverlight as well.

There are of course the voluntary contributions that some of Us make.. I realise this is just a small percentage of the revenue generated but must at least count if only to show good will ....

I will not bother doing My bit next time around and NOT because nothing has been done... Simply because just about everyone has complained and not once has a real explanation or ANY adjustments taken place..

Don't have a clue what "FLASH" IS,

Apparently Kev it cleans floors without scratching.

You should know, I have a vague recollection of a Scottish actress advertising it. See a bit of harmless advertising brain-washing works even when people are still in their pram :).

Kev should remember, 'No hard rubbing, or streaks … and finished in half the time'

And yes we are talking FLASH here

There are lots of different forum groups. It is unfair to expect somebody to trawl them for comments. We were asked very nicely to email faults to a single point of contact but as far as I know nobody did. We had our own special thread insteads complaining about it.

I think some of the shades don't compliment each other but it doesn't offend me enough to email Steve so I don't expect him to do anything about it.

Yep, and I shouted at the wall! Both of us got the same results. :disgust:

I have nothing against adverts per se, its just when they start slowing site access down that time comes to have a rethink ;)

In fact I would prefer to pay a sum rather than have adverts (especially flash based) . . . Now where is the info on becoming a supporter???

Quite a few forums have a setup where a 'paid up' member can opt out of the adsense ads, skimwords, etc, but a non 'paid up' member sees them.

That model to me makes sense and as I find this forum very useful and even occasionally entertaining, would carry on donating as long as it remained usable.

FWIW, I NEVER click on the adverts and do my damnest to actively block them, so taking them away won't affect any revenue generation from my membership and actually going with my suggestion would increase it! and I don't think I am alone re never doing any ad-clicking :)

Hi Anch's

No.....no laptop here,personally don't like them,prefer a desktop.

My power settings are set to max ( checked it) they need to be given the age of my system....( yes i managed to find power settings whilst accidently " fiddling " with controls the other week).

Right....my monitor is a 12" proview ( a good few years old ) hand me down.

The tower is comag " intel celeron " with windows vista premium ??...no idea how good it is,it was a re con from pc world about 3 years ago.

your PC is ancient and slow in Modern terms, but ...... an internet forum should be one of the least power-hungry uses of any computer and yours should be able to cope without any issues.

I think getting the ad blocker and flash blocker would be a good idea :)
