Is Ot Supposed To Drive Like This?

Hi.

I have a 2010 Verso 1.6TR 6 speed manual.

I have noticed that when accelerating hard, eg when joining motorway, the revs rise then fall then rise again as the car accelerates. The car does not accelerate as fast as the revs rise, its as if it is lagging behind the engine and then catching up before the revs start rising again when it has. There are no lights showing to indicate that the traction control system is doing this - the light flashes when slippery as you would expect it to do. My initial thoughts were that the clutch was slipping so I raised this with my local dealer, but they found no problem with the clutch. I'm just concerned that there is something amiss that I should be getting checked out. I have owned the car from new and it has only done 13000 miles.

I would be grateful for any help you can give me.

Thanks

It does sound like the clutch, what tests did the dealer do?

Any nasty burning smells?

Any steep hills you can drive up at low speed in a high gear near you?

Thanks for replying.

They had it in and checked it when getting the panoramic roof checked. Not sure what they did. There are no smells what so ever and the car's clutch doesn't slip when you try to pull away with the brake on. No to your last question as well.

Could it be something to do with the traction control?

It sounds like one of those `rubber band` automatics but you say its a manual so it can only be the clutch.

Persevere with the dealer if you not happy

get to about 30mph in 4th or 5th gear on a clear bit of road and stick your foot down when the engine should be quite laboured and hardly accelerating then just lightly push the clutch until it starts to slip then let off again whilst keeping throttle on the floor usually a slipping clutch will show when doing this

CVT was my first thought, but the OP says its manual :ermm:

Looking dowm the list of Verso`s the only 1.6 I can see is the V-matic

The 1.6 V-Matic is a normal manual, it must be a bit of clutch slip, the traction control system wont make the revs rise.

Or the TC system is not working and the wheels are actually spinning, although a car thief may struggle to spin the wheels in a 1.6 Verso.

The 1.6 V-Matic is a normal manual,

So V-matic refers to the engine ?

And I thought I`d solved it

They must have thought it was time to confuse everyone with an engine type name containing "Matic"

Thanks for your help with this. I'll see what the dealer has to say about it.

In all seriousness the best thing would be to go out in the car with one of the technicians and just show them whats going on.

What gear does this happen in?

Could a few of them are slipping somehow, new gearbox fault maybe?
