Engine Hood Will Not Open

Recommended Posts

2000 MR2, the rear hood will not open, the cable barrel was off the lever, I got that on but seems the cable is stretched or out of it anchor, which I can't see. Anyone have advice on this?

Thanks Mike Meyers

The spring on the hood catch on mine can be a bit sticky. Sometimes I have to wedge something under the lever and then go round the back and physical lift the hood. I've not got around to fully investigating mine, I figure it just needs a good clean and lubricating. Could it be that, or is the cable not even pulling on the hood latch at the back of the car?

P.. I don't often look here for posts I go straight to the MRS/Roadster sub section of this thread, you might get more response if you post it there?

Thanks, I'll try the Roadster sub section. I have to do the same thing, last time I cleaned it and lubed it so it was working smoothly, I think its the cable.

Thanks again.

That was great I also agree that it needs some lubricants.

Another thing to check is that the engine cover is sitting level with the wings when closed. If not then there are two rubber grommets inside which you can screw in and out and they also create a resistance against the latch helping the lid to spring open.
