Michelin 'latitude Cross' Tyres

Has anyone else hit the spec problem with Michelin Latitude Cross H/T tyres for the alloy-wheeled 4.2 ?

Tyre size is 235/60 R16, for which Toyota specify a 100H speed rating.

I like Michelins, and thought they would make an interesting change from the Bridgestone Duelers H/T #687 I have had since new.

A while ago, I ordered a set of five, and they arrived at my local Spanish tyre depot. They effectively refused to fit them, because the Michelins are only speed rated as 100T. Here, the correct tyre spec is part of the ITV (MoT) annual test, and they advised against fitting them.

T spec is 118mph (190km/h), H is 130mph (210km/h).

Michelin's own site lists the Latitude Cross for the RAV4 (my year, model etc.).

Has anyone else come up against the same problem? And is fitting such tyres an issue with UK MoT? Presumably, it must be a potential issue in the case of an accident or insurance claim, where the vehicle is found to be running on below-spec tyres.

I would like to take up this issue again with Michelin, but some ammo would be helpful.

I've got Michelin latitude Cross for my other car. They are 235/70R16 rated 106 h. So are 130mph rated. Is there a choice of rating on different tyres then? Or are different tyre sizes rated differently?

Have been and will continue to be a regular visitor to your adopted home area, Chris, and cannot answer your problem. Have only posted to say how gobsmacked I am at a SPANISH COSTA DEL WHATSIT garage actually picking you up on this. I never cease to be astounded at the quantity of totally knackered tyres I can see on Spanish cars in your area....some on bangers, some on pretty good cars. Just a wee observation I do for fun....saddo.

Big Kev
