Iphone Compatability

I would like to plug my iPhone 3gs ios5 into the car but it doesn't recognise it. any suggestions?

I suspect that you would need the iPhone adapter fitting to plug your phone in.

Depending on which radio you have you can use bluetooth to connect as an mp3 player.

My 2010 Avensis with satnav can be partialy controled via the steering wheel in this fashion.

I have the Avensis TR. It has a usb slot and a picture of an iPhone on the menu system but it is not recognised. I wonder if the car was set up to work with ios4 and will not work when Apple updates the OS. Unfortunately my phone's bluetooth has never been that reliable and although it plays music it keeps stopping and starting. Thanks though.
