Time For A Change

Recommended Posts

Due to an expanding family it's time to leave the IQ family.

But the real question is what to change it for. the replacement needs to be a tardis small on the outside to fit in the garage big on the inside for prams and wot not.

Have you thought about a Yaris, still small enough on the outside but roomy inside.

To be honest you'll struggle with anything as small as a yaris with a pram.

We have a Verso as a main car and the pram just fits in that.

The best way to find out is to take your pram to the dealer and see which cars you can actually get on with.

Honda Jazz?

If you want to stay with Toyota and need plenty of space in a small car then why not consider the New Verso S

It is built on the new Yaris platform with a 1.33 litre engine and has much more load space than the new Yaris

Or the new coming Yaris Full Hybrid... all new and fresh...

Got a test drive in the verso later but have just been very impressed with the Honda Jazz Especially the rear seat arrangement.

Does anyone ubdesrand how the ncap child stars are awarded it seems a lot of points are based on ease of use as opposed to actual perfotmance in a crash?

On this alone the chevrolet Aveo should be topbof the list

No, No, No! Not the Aveo. Stick with Japanese vehicles, you know they are best from previous experience. Am I right? You like Japanese cars. You like Japanese cars. You like Japanese cars. You like Japanese cars. You like Japanese cars.

But seriously. Take a look at the Auto Express on line site. (That'll be the web site then? Of course.)

They run loads of tests and have lots to say about the choices of car you are looking for. The Jazz, in my mind would be perfect inside. If it fits your garage I have no idea. If it's the typical shoebox added on to some houses then I don't know, it might fit if you don't want to actualy be able to get out of the car.

Have included some useful links below. Hope they help.

I was in this same situation not too long ago. I really didn't want to stray away from the Japanese manufacturers as I like them all. In the end though, for what I required, I decided the most suitable car was a Peugeot 207sw. I wanted a diesel this time so that ruled out the Honda Jazz. I wanted a reasonable sized car such as an MPV or more prefered an estate. I also wanted tax band C and only had around £8k to play with so couldn't buy new. As I have a family of my own now I wanted something with a 5 star EuroNCAP rating. I've never been into French cars at all until I started looking at Peugeot and also my mother owns a 2010 Citroen C3 Picaso which seemed okay (Peugeot and Citroen are part of the same company). Was a little worried about going from what is seen as a reliabe country for cars to one that is seen as unreliable but so far had no issues. It fits the pram in the boot no problem and has plenty of room in the back for the child seat. I'm 6ft tall and I can sit behind my drivers seat with room to spare.

Of the 4 cars I've owned only 2 of them have actually retured the expected MPG figures, a petrol Mazda Demio and the one I have now. The diesel Mazda 2 was a joke for fuel consumption (Expected 65, actual 45-50) and the iQ was decent if I drove it really slowly but to keep up with the traffic as it were, I'd get 50-55mpg, 60 if really lucky.

Try a site like parkers or autotrader, create a search for the sort of car you're looking for, narrow down the best cars and compare each of them by looking at reviews, specifcations, etc. Or if buying new you might be better off just looking at all the big manufacturers websites. Don't bother sticking to one manufacturer or even one country, all manufacturers have good and bad models. Look at the car behind the badges and review it for what it is, not for who it's made by. Buying a car that's been on sale for a couple of years is benificial to a new release as there will be more information around regarding reliabilty. Owners clubs forums could be a good place to nosey around...

And measure your garage, most manufacturers will list full car dimensions somewhere.

A bit of a long post but hope it helps.

No way - don't buy a chevrolet aveo! I had a chevrolet one time (in a moment of madness :o ) and it was the worst car I ever set foot in. It gave me nothing but hassle and bother. It was the most unreliable car ever, I got it new and got rid of it before it was a year old. A chevrolet would be a massive mistake for you and a massive step down in quality from your iQ. There are plenty of other brands to consider rather than chevrolet. As for the ncap ratings, I see some chevrolets had stars struck off before.

Honda jazz or wait for the Prius C (Toyota aqua) looks awesome, I think it'd be better than the Honda crz which was pretty big car for the enthusiasts

It was never going to be an Chevrolet.

Thanks for all of the advice but we have now settled on a 5dr ibiza my father in law has a polo which we both really like and the ibiza price is a big factor. It would appear a growing family has affected our outlook.

Whilst fortunatley money isn't an issue at the momment going forward it may be useful to have some more pennies around.

so the definetley needs s new home now.

Have you looked at a Skoda Fabia 5 door then?

Slightly more room than the Polo or Seat as either Hatchback or Estate

& the same VAG mechanicals and underpinning than the VW or Seat for less money.

The ibiza is now due for delivery next Saturday, so we will entertain all sensible offers for the IQ Monaco. the car is advertised on both pistonheads and the autotrader for £8,195 but we are now open to keener offers for a good home
