Landcruiser Immobilzer, No Master Keys

Hi,

My Dad's 2001 Landcruiser was left switched on and the Battery became flat. It is now recharged, but the Landcruiser is completely dead when the key is turned, apart from the immobilizer light showing.

We have two master keys which have had no Battery life for ages, and broken blades. We have two grey chip keys.

I am hoping that if I get key batteries, there might be some life in the keys, and I could transfer the contents of a key to a new blank key which could be cut.

Can anyone advise if this is likely to start the Landcruiser? Would it require an in-car recode using pedals that I've heard of?

If there is no life in the keys, I take it we would have to get help at a dealer. If so, what would they have to do, and how much is it likely to cost?

Thank you, S.

Update: Got CR1616 batteries for the master keys. The little red lights are showing, so there is some life in them. I've just ordered a blank key.

The blank key arrived, and I got it cut.

When I tried to start the Landcruiser, there was no life, but the immobiliser light did not come on. We thought the Battery might be down, so towed and it started.

When started, we noticed most of the electrics are not working, explaining why the starter motor wasn't turning.

Jump leads had been very briefly attached the wrong way round, so I'll have to check some fuses.

Can anyone advise, would the starter relay be damaged, and any other relays?

Thanks, Sean.

That's all it takes. Most likely one of the main (100 or 120 AMP) fuses have blown. Look at those first and replace as required

Thanks PartsKing,

The 100A and 80A fuses are visibly broken.

I don't think the Landcruiser would have started without the master key. Does anyone agree or disagree?

Sean.

Now I think the immobiliser and new key scenario was a complete red herring.

Having changed the 100 and 80A fuses, the landcruiser is fine again.

The grey key brings on the immobiliser light, but starts the landcruiser. The new master key also works but doesn't bring the light on. For all I know the vehicle may not even have an immobiliser.

The 100A and 80A fuses are called PAL slow blow fuses. They do not slip in and out, as they are bolted on each blade, 8mm and 10mm. They can be bought for around £3 online, £6 from shop, or £10 from Toyota.

Steps to change:

-Disconnect Battery negative

-Remove fuse box lid

-remove nut fixing cable to fuse box, beside 60a fuse.

-with screw driver prise and push the coffee coloured block holding the Abs fuse down, and out of the way

-remove 3 10mm bolts holding fuse box to body

-with screwdriver, twist and push 5 plastic clips to allow fuse box to separate.

-the fuse bolts can now be accessed

-remove bolts, swap fuse(s)

-undo previous steps
