Which Wheels For Your Wheels?

A little poll for no real reason :D

When Toyota GB discontinued the SR180 and introduced the SR150, they did two things re the wheels ....

1) Scrapped the BSR Run-Flats (was anyone sorry to see that go?)

2) Kept the same 18" Wheels but darkened the spokes for a kind of two-tone effect, which some like and some definitely do not.

So vote how you think

EDIT: Well, it would have been a Poll if the option worked!!!

I vote, yes to scrapping BSR and no more Run Flats and yes to new darkened wheels

The darkened wheels colour is very similar to the ones on the U/C, which I prefer to the silvery ones. The only prob is if you kerb them you have a hell of a job getting a colour match for them. Believe it or not the actual start colour of the darker wheels is black!!!!!

Definitely the silver ones for Me.. The wheels fitted to the SR and other top end Ravs are a great design. Nice big and chunky and really set the car off. I like them so much I bought a new set for the winter wheels...

It is a question of taste at the end of the day. I hate the dark smoke ones as to Me they look like a car that has been cleaned but the wheels left dirty and covered in brake dust....

Agree totally about scrapping the run flats but that is what they have done ??

Only flaw in the cunning plan though was NOT fitting a spare wheel to the later non run flat cars.. Having just a puncture repair kit could and likely would leave most folk requiring recovery... Not always an option for some drivers ?

If My Wife were stranded with a puncture ( In the event of Us buying a Rav SR Automatic) She could likely seek the assistance of a kindly fellow motorist to change the wheel ??

Not many would be able to repair a tyre at the roadside ! Especially if its launching it down with rain... Recovery and good recovery at that is essential on a Rav without runflats or a spare wheel taking up half the boot !

Well runflats are definitly a No No, as for wheels IMO, on a dark car, shiny ones to match steps and "A" bar (shiny roofrails too, although more expensive) and on a light car (white or silver) the darker wheels look great  Stew

Stew, I think you make a good point there - I have just swapped the wheels on my RAV4 yesterdasy and put away the All-Silver T180 Wheels and refitted the original Darkened SR150 Wheels and I do like the contrast with the pearl white paint (and also went for black rails to contrast).

If I had a Black RAV, then I think the Silver Wheels would suit more, along with silver Roof Rails.

It is a shame that Toyota GB seem to be so inflexible when it comes to the option list :( Why not have the abilty to have SIlver OR Darkened? Why not allow the buyer to decide if they want a Spare Wheel on the back or a Repair Kit? or even Run-Flats or No Run Flats! Other makers seem to manage it!

They would never have made the runflats an option, David....mustah made a few quid AT OUTSET, but now have machinery way underused as so many have come off them. What may have seemed a good safety and convenience issue just became a total hump the customer issue....and there was I saying my last word on them not long ago....anger runs deep.

High Horse Kev....again.

Darkened wheels for me even on a Gray Rav, having just fitted arc lights in the boot this morning and taken out the boot liner an option of a skinny spare that would sit under the boot liner would have been ideal, but you can't even purchase this kind of tyre/wheel on its own to sit in the boot.

I was at Uncle Arnies this morning (the one in BishopBriggs) and looking at the RAV4 2012 version - mainly to nose at the Touch & Go, but only got to see it in situ, rather then switched on (and TBH, I like the appearance of the older unit, although as I have not seen T&G on, that is literally just based on how it looks in the dash)

Anyway, I was waffling to one of the salesmen there about the lack of Spare on the RAV4 and he said it was a common complaint but Toyota wanted to persevere with no spare to reduce weight and so CO2 emissions - I wonder if the UK Taxation bands have resulted in this situation more then other EU countries?

I would have thought they could have made the Spare an option just like options such as Roof Rails, Nudge Bars, etc and provided CO2 data for the basic car without that option as a bit of a side-step to the issue :)

Could the C02 be much increased by the weight of a wheel ?? Would having a spare wheel move the car into the next VED taxation class ?

Or is it just simply that the cost of equipping the car with said wheel eats into the profits ? Surely as Consumers We should have the choice ?

Dealer explained to Me that I cannot spec new car with a sun roof because Toyota have stopped fitting them to the small cars as it was affecting structural rigidity.... I asked if that made all the existing cars unsafe then ?? Errr No....

I had a follow up call from a Dealer on Friday to see if I was going to buy a new SR.. I said that due to the predicted and figures I have seen and be told Re fuel consumption I had decided against the car.... Sales Exec said Our cars Sir are guaranteed to reach the publicised figures on fuel consumption.... Which are...

Fuel consumption (urban) 32.5 mpg Fuel consumption (extra urban) 46.3 mpg Fuel consumption (combined) 39.8 mpg

I would order and pay for the car that very day.. Providing I get My guarantee in writing that the car would do the above figures..

No such guarantee was forthcoming ...

Do Dealers or should I say their sales personnel think We are daft ??
