Alternator And Brake Warning Light On After Washing The Engine!

Dear Toyota drivers,

This week I borrowed the car of my uncle. It's a well maintained Toyota Carina from 1993 with only 200.000 km on the clock. So the car is hardly used and he bought it new. For service and to be thankfull I decided to wash the car for him from the outside, inside and the engine.

I own a Volvo 850 myself and with my car I clean the engine the same wayso now and than. There is no need to cover parts of the engine or whatever and just spray with the water pistol over the engine. I did the same with my uncle's car 2 days ago, but since than both the alternator as the brake warning lights are on! First I thought that it were "fake" warnings and just a matter of drying, but the alternator really doesn't load the Battery anymore. It's empty now. Brakes are fine.

Anyone any idea what could be wrong? In wich part of the car could be that water has gone inside? Because the washing was 2 days ago it should be logical that the water is already gone. But it seems not ...

P.s. Appologize for my poor English

Best regards,

Close2U (Amsterdam)

Looks like you've damaged the alternator or fuse going to it ? It should have dried out after 2 days Its always best to place rags over these vunerable area's and spray WD40 over the sensor's and injectors

Okay, thanks. Do you know where I can find the fuse for the alternator? I discovered a fuse box just behind the radiator but I couldn't find the one for the alternator.
