Rav 4.3 Clutch / Drive Train Noise

Right got a interesting one for you techies...

While driving back from London couple of weeks back our 4.3 developed a medium pitch noise like a bubble machine (thats how it sounds from within the cab). I initially thought belt tensioner but after inspection an testing it's not that.

The noise starts and increases as the revs build but if you dip the clutch go away so defo clutch drive train related. Sounds as if coming from the front of the car. In neutral an parked some times I get a slight clattering/chattery noise as if the clutch is slightly catching (goes when clutch pushed down).

Could it be a thrust bearing on it's way out? (not sure on internals of Ravs gearboxes but had several of others apart over years).

I've got no other side effects yet apart from this noise i.e can pull away in second proving clutch is strong.

The cars now done 102,000 and is a 2.2 diesel 6spd manual xt4 56 plate. Engine is sound no turbo noises all fine there. It's not a problem yet but bugging me.

Ideas welcome.

The chattering noise is normal - they all do it to some extent.

Has it got the right oil in the gearbox? It should be straight 75 grade oil and if it was done anywhere else other that a Toyota garge they will have had great difficulty getting it.

Don't think it's gear oil related as it comes an goes drove to London today no noise. Got in this evening to drive to hotel an it's back %$(in thing!

It has to be filled to be over filled :)

Just wondering aswell what/how/when does the turbo need servicing on 4.3?

I'm aware of that but I've heard engines that have beened OVER filled and they gurgle.

No servicing necessary but if BG244 works as well as claimed it might well clean the internal parts that would otherwise require stripping

i have the same problem. garage mechanics told me that it is dual-mass flywheel. they told me that i can drive with it another 5000kms and then it need to be changed, because it will make much bigger noise and so on...

today i have driven 35 000km after their comments and the noise is +/- the same :)
