Hi people,

I have an avensis (2009) 2.0 estate and I am wondering where the sump plug and filter are before I go ripping bits off underneath that I probably won't have to, help appreciated,

Cheers Phil :)

On the 2008 model there are 'service flaps' on the under-shields which give access to both. However - I prefer to remove the entire panel as this gives far greater access and prevents the shields suffering the inevitable oil spillage. The retaining clips are somewhat flimsy but quality aftermarket replacements are available on eBay if you break any.

Ah cheers mate!! So the filter is more accessible from underneath then?? Will I need a strap wrench to remove the entire housing or just a socket to remove the element?? Thanks for your help again mate!!!

Cheers Phil :)

A strap wrench or similar is required. The replacement is refitted 'by hand' - instructions on the (genuine)box.

Hi just found an oil leak on the lhs (same side as the timing belts) the oil is appearing on the plastic cover could it be that the oil filter is loose or is it on the other side.

Thanks

A leak beneath the timing (chain) area LHS could possibly be from the crankshaft oil seal. The oil filter is slightly more central. get the front onto axle stands and remove the lower shields. It will all become clearer then. The oil filter is visible from above and if it is leaking it will be wet to the touch. Tightening is 'by hand' but this is best done from below.
