Found this connector within left rear wing, any idea what it's for. Looks like an RF socket.

It does look like one of the coaxial ones. Is it just the one centre conductor/pin? (not easy to tell from the photos).

Did you have the car from new? It doesn't look it was part of the factory fit wiring harness.

It is a coaxial connector and it looks as its from factory, the way it's taped to the harness is similar to other connectors.

I didn't get the car from new, so not sure about it.

From this photo can be noticed it's being coming out from the factory harness, so I don't think its done aftermarket. Checked on the right side wing and found that its perfectly the same connector as for the roof antenna.

OK, have to say this quietly as the mention of this system upsets some people, but I believe it is the connector for the rear TPMS RX antenna. That is located in the LH rear wing.

I expect the installed harnesses for T180 (TPMS) and XT5 (no TPMS) are very similar or the same one. I can probably check at some point.

Thanks for the info.

I also think that harnesses for both T180 and XT5 are the same, so can a TPMS be fitted to an XT5 or its not worth doing the OEM part.

James.

I am a great TPMS Fan - but not really the way Toyota implemented theirs. You can get an excellent complete aftermarket TPMS system for less then the price Toyota would charge you for a single wheel sensor (and not having a dig at just Toyota here - just about all OEM TPMS systems are horrendously expensive to maintain)

Thanks mate, I'm sure that the OEM part from Mr.T would cost much more than aftermarket, and also assume that no pressure readings are given as with the aftermarket ones.

It looks exactly like the connector for the XM satellite radio antenna. In the 2009-2012 N. American models, the XM antenna is integrated into the base of the FM antenna:

The TPMS antenna connector is blue, located in the left hand rear wing (where that was found), is coaxial like that one and has a part number of 90980-50004.

One of the smart entry plip "pinging" antennas, is located under the plastic trim, behind the rear seats and is a 3 pin white connector part number 90980-12695 and carries a much lower frequency signal (125kHz) and not 434MHz. There is another at the front and others in the door handles.

The remote locking UHF receiver is located on the other side of the vehicle, has a five pin connector (90980-12366) and does not carry UHF signals, as the data to the secrurity/body controller has already been demodulated in the receiver.

The GPS antenna is an active patch antenna @1.5GHz located under the dash. Yes, automotive connector manufacturers make very similar connectors for all sorts of vehicle RF (radio frequency) systems at 75 and 50 Ohm Zo.

Generally Vehicle manufacturers try to avoid using coax as much as possible, because compared with "normal" wiring it is expensive. In this instance, it may well work out cheaper to just have the one receiver in the TPMS ECU and route the RF(UHF) to it from both the front and rear TPMS antennas, rather than a front and rear receiver.

When TPMS is fitted to everything, it probably makes sense for the remote locking reciever to also be the TPMS receiver and demodulate everything there, so no coax, just a data output. In fact it has already been done elsewhere.

In this model, TPMS is not "fit all" in all markets, so for the moment it probably works out cheap to just have the simple remote locking RX and add a separate TPMS receiver for higher spec models (at least in EU). Plus the combined door/TPMS RX was probably not available when the vehicle was engineered.

i have seem the same connector down to the front left door (passenger side), under the plastic part, and on the other side too.
