Iq3 Gear Change When Cold?

Recommended Posts

Hi Chaps

Not sure if anyone has experience of this but I have an iQ3 so the 1.3 engine and the 6 speed manual transmission and I am finding it a bit tricky at times to select the lower gears.

Normally only 1st and 2nd gear and only when changing down the box and it only happens when the vehicle is cold. Once she's been running a while everything seems fine again.

This morning I slowed for a set of lights a few minutes after leaving the house so changed down to 2nd and that was a bit tricky but went in after a couple of tugs of the lever but then I stopped at the lights and couldn't select 1st. I had a go for second again then try 1st then ended up letting the clutch up in neutral and going for 1st again which seemed to work. After a few miles and after the cool light had gone out, same situation but really slick gearchanges that time.

I will speak to my dealer about it in case it's a known fault and can be sorted easily but just curious if anyone else has had this?

I have the 1.3 6 speed (2011 model) and have not experienced anything like that.

I think there were some issues with earlier models needing an adjustment for 2nd gear. It might be worth a search on here?

I certainly would speak to the dealer

& get it checked under warranty.

Hopefully as well as any adjustment, they will be changing the gearbox oil and be checking for anything in it.

(If they do not do this,

i would be having that done by an independent after the dealer has done what they do.)

But thats just as something to satisfy myself & obviously should not be necessary if the Toyota Dealership do things as they should.

Thanks Guys

She is indeed still under warranty as I've only owned her about 8 weeks now is only 2 years old. Only covered 12K miles now so I can't believe the gearbox is trashed but I'll definitely get them to check it and change the oil too. If they don't change the oil I'll do it myself, should be pretty easy to do.

I'll also have a look at the workshop manual tonight to see if there is a procedure for adjusting gearbox linkages. Not saying I'll do it myself, just be curious to see if there is a mention of it.

Might get that 60mpg limit on the dash display changed too while it's there.

I'll let you know how I get on

Craig.
