Just shows what can be done, even by an amateur! But why, oh why, retain the gearbox/clutch etc??? Answer: because it was easier to fit, I guess. But that's missing the whole point of electric drive...

Now, four motors (or perhaps two for urban use) would be more interesting, and more sound engineering-wise.

My next project a KERS device as used in F1 utilizing the starter motor, for that extra boost of acceleration. Would it work?

No regeneration just extra boost by hitting a button to engage the motor...

Well there will be some regeneration, when the alternator charges the Battery up again.....
