T180 Tyres

I will shortly need 2 new run flat front tyres on T180. A Main Dealer has quoted £400 per tyre plus a possible new ring or to remove rings and fit standard tyres at £325 per tyre. Dealer will only do a full set for safety reasons but rears have many miles left in them. Can anybody tell me if it is OK to have standard front tyres and run flats on the rear OR does anybody know a tyre centre who will supply and fit run flats or remove rings and fit standard tyres at sensible prices in Devon or Cornwall? Thanks.

With the utmost of respect, Mike, could you not just get away from your home area and widen your choices a bit....? This piece of excrement who is trying to charge you that kind of money is relying on having a captive (or bonkers....) audience, and you should really name and shame him. Your posting has brought me out of a self imposed "won't moan about runflats again" retirement....this is disgusting profiteering at its worst. Best thing you can do Mike is have a weekend nearer "more commercialised areas" and get them all bloody removed.

Moan Kev...and apologies for it, but hate to hear of wanton public humping of the wallet.....

Take a look here.. Its worth reading all of it especially the part that will tell You about the insurance implications on removal of the BSR system and the tyres

http://www.toyotaown...howtopic=133751

In short though You cannot for said insurance reasons have runies on the front and normal on the back or vice versa..

For 400 quid a corner You could fit brand new Replica wheels ( Better in quality than OE ones) and a very decent tyre !! PM Me and I will point You in the right direction if that option is appealing !

Rav4 T180/SR replicas by WSP wheels .. Complete with centre caps and brand new bolts £250 each.. Tyres at around 120 to 150 dependant on brand...

This will leave You with the old set ready to put back on the car when trade in or sale time comes around.. A Toyota Dealer will either not take a non BSR equipped car in PX or will mark the price down to cover replacing them as They cannot retail a car without them ...................

Those costs are totally insane!! It sounds like a Dealer taking the total ***

As far as Tyre Places in West Country go, I have always had good service from ProTyres in Marsh Barton, Exeter and found them to be the cheapest Supply and Fit in a reasonable distance (and also very competitive country-wide). I have not had any RAV4 BSR type work from them, though, but at the very least they should be able to supply the BSR logoed Duellers at a decent price if you keep that solution on there.

Personally speaking, in your situation, I would go for a 2nd set of wheels.

Dealers are actually making a loss selling the BSR Duelers.. Simply because they will never recoup the cost of the very expensive equipment required to fit and remove them..

So many have cut the tyres off and fitted normal tyres plus the machines sit most of the time doing nothing.

Mchonechys in Scotland bought some of these very expensive machines and one of the Managers told Me they have been a dead loss and the company will never get back the investment even if sales were treble what they are now..

Keep your eye on eBay as I picked up 2 brand new Bridgestone runflats with the stickers still on them for £99 each.

You can't buy non runflats for that.:-)
