Will a 2003 Mk1 Yaris D4D run on Biodiesel?

In theory it should be okay aside from needing the fuel filter changed after the first tankful and maybe after a few more tanks, but all cars have that issue.

Must admit, I'm too chicken to try straight biodiesel; Most I've tried was the 20% mix and that was okay. Usually it's the 7% blend that's in standard Morrisions diesel and that seems okay too.

Engine runs a damned lot smoother on that than on Esso diesel, that's for sure!

  • 2 months later...

:D I've been running my '05 Avensis with a 2 Litre D4D engine on B100 for 6 months now.

It loves it and runs well without any issues.

The new engines are not keen on high concentrates of bio content and you might end up knackering the engine...short term the oxygen sensor might fail, certainly the fuel filter will clog...I am very dubious and until Toyota say go for it I will be avoiding it like the plague.

I have heared other 2.0D users saying the same...the 2.2 D does not like it....strange!

Let's think. Do I want to risk a £2,000 rebuild to the fuel system for the sake of saving £250 per year?

Hmm... gotta think on it for about - 1 second - for a rational decision.

Toyota say a 5% mix is fine

All the D4D engines run high pressure pumps, and they dont like it long term, fine if you are running a high miler and not worried about it going bang, but in a newer car? No thanks, not for me :D:

Kingo

I know Toyota say not to use it in my 2.2, I wouldn't take the risk.
