Terminating An Extended Toyota Warranty

When I got my second had Avensis last year, it came with a one year Toyota Warranty. (I'd purchased from a Toyota dealership.)

Over the first couple of months, I needed two 02 sensors and a new ECU, all done under this warranty.

Therefore, when Toyota wrote to me a month or so into ownership, asking if I wanted to extend the warranty by another year, at a 'discounted' rate, I thought it might be worth it. I therefore agreed, as I could pay for this extra years cover over 20 months, starting immediately, in July 2011.

For various reasons, I have now sold the Avensis, and the new owner is not interested in continuing on this warranty.

I have therefore written to Toyota informing them, and cancelled the DD. However, I wondered if I would be getting back any of the money I've paid 'upfront' as it were?

This second year warranty was not due to start until May 2012. The paperwork Toyota sent me for it had a different warranty number to the first year one, and shows a valid date of May 12 to April 13.

Just wondered if anyone else had been in this situation before?

Thanks,

I suspect that not only may you not get any of the money that you've already paid back but you may still in fact be liable for the rest. It's not Toyota's fault/problem that you've sold the car before the warranty started.

I sinceely hope that is note the case Heidfirst. I accept that I am pulling out of an agreed contract, but will be extremely hacked off with Toyota if they say I need to continue paying for a warranty that hasn't yet started, on a car that I no longer own, for a warranty that they know will not have a claim made against it.

I have had a disaster of a year with the reliabilty of my Avensis, some of which was sorted under warranty, some of which wasn't. (Not helped by my local Toyota dealership, who has done some pretty sloppy work on it as well.)

Hence the reason for the sale, and my move back to a Honda Accord - a car that in my opinion stands head and shoulders over the Avensis anyday. (Sorry if that upsets all you Avensis lovers out there, but I'm sure you'll agree that we all judge our cars by how they perform, reliabilty, and, for those of us not able to do anything but the basic checks, how the garage you take it to for servicing/ repairs treats you.)

I have asked in my cancellation letter where i stand with a refund, so I will just have to wait and see what their response is.

OK; rant over for the day! - Off to enjoy some sunshine now....

Just ring them and ask, chances are as no claims have been made you should get some kind of pro rata refund. No doubt with a form of admin fee deducted. Do you have the T's & C's for the policy?
