Hello gentlemen, good morning. Battery wont keep charge even after long run.................totaly flat! no click.nothin'.Need to keep gettin jump-start from fed-up brother-in law! Lights come on ok tiill no power at all left.Lights on dash on ok (Battery light not lit when driving) so i'm thinking it might be loose belt or maybe even (at worse!)a new alternator!. how easy is it to remove the alternator or to tighten it?All thoughts/comments appreciated!

To see if the alternator is charging,if you have a volt meter,drop it across the Battery terminals and you should get a reading of about 14 volts when the engine is running.

A Battery supplier will have a tester to check this as well as tell the state of your Battery.

Do this first before you even think about any replacement parts,as you may find the problem straight away.

Good Luck

Check with:

- charging current from an alternator;

- coming charging current on the Battery (-) and (+) -- is that the same with previous?

- check with glow plugs relay el contacts subject to both above currents are the same;

- check with condition of Battery contacts -- whether an electricity lose is available via dirty contacts ?

This is a really handy test gadget for checking what's going into/out of your Battery, or along any single cable (eg alternator output). It just clips onto the cable in question - no need to cut into it.

A Sealey product, available as 30-0-30 Amp or 75-0-75 Amp, from all the usual sources, including

http://www.justoffba...clip-on+ammeter. The 75A version will be more useful in checking most problems: it's decently sensitive, and the one I have shows currents as low as 5A accurately.
