2003 Avensis Diesel Estate 2.0 D4D No Power At Low Revs + 87Mpg

Hi Everyone,

My avensis doesn't seem to have any power at low revs, under about 2500 anyway, it stalls very easily and after changing up, barely accelerates in 3rd 4th and 5th, even with my foot down.

I've cleaned out the EGR valve which hasn't made a difference, I also (carefully) cleaned the MAF which hasn't changed anything either.

I'm not sure if its related or not, but the fuel efficiency display has also gone mental , it usually tells me I'm getting around 85mpg, reluctantly, i suspect this is not entirely accurate.

Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance

Sam

Edit :

Its done 130k, There's no warning lights on and it's consistently sluggish, hot or cold. Im not sure what the actual mpg is, at a guess id say mid 30`s or so? Doesnt seem especially excessive.

Thank you for the welcome ! :fireman:

You need to elaborate a little further what miles has it done? Any fault codes? Does it happen hot and cold, is it a fault thats gradually occurred or has it just happened, whats the actual MPG?

Oh and welcome to TOC... :flowers:

As cabs has said... You need to get some fault codes read if there are any. Readers can be bought of places like eBay for less that £15. Have you changed the fuel/air filter? SCV ok?

Welcome to TOC btw :drunk:

Your car falls into the SCV zone for age, the engine and symptoms. Although as its a diesel it could be many different things! As Taff mentions has it been long since the fuel/air filter was changed?

Have a look at this thread http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=87986 re SCV's.

Having cleaned the MAF, are you sure that its not bu@@ered? But 1st call for me (After a code reader) is to change the fuel filter and check the air filter... Go from there and tell us how you get on...
