Last Gripe

Ok I'll make this my last gripe regarding my Auris.

I've had the car less than a week and I'm really starting to struggle with it...so far I've noticed the following problems:

- First gear is pretty much useless, moving off at anything greater than snail pace requires a lot of revs.

- The clutch often makes a clunking noise when released.

- The ride is far from comfortable, every little bump in the road can be felt, often shaking the car around.

- I would expect the car to come to a nice smooth stop at lights etc, not the case! Stopping is quite bumpy and uncomfortable.

- I've noticed with the windows down I can hear some squeeking from the front brakes and occasionally a light scraping noise from the rear.

I've arranged for a 4-wheel alignment to be done but nothing else at present.

This certainly wasn't what I was expecting from an approved used car!

Anyone's input on how I can make driving the Auris a more pleasurable experience would be greatly appreciated!

the clunk noise you here when releasing the clutch pedal im afraid is something you are just going to have to get used to,mines excatly the same and after posting on here for advice and googling it and taking it to my local toyota dealer i now accept its just a characteristic of the auris, dealer tells me its the release bearing in the gearbox and theres nothing they can do about it.they assured me it wouldnt cause any damage to the car, but i know how anoying it is until you get used to it.mine mostly makes the clunk noise when changing up from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gears , and sometimes 3rd to 4th, must admit it dosnt make the noise everytime, more often than not though.

as for the stearing wheel dropping to the left or right mine does exactly the same at very low speeds, its as if the wheel is waited down on the left or right, just over light power steering i think .took mine to main toyota dealer and they did a four wheel laser alignment was slightly out but problem still there had wheels swapped front to back no difference, and when i needed new tyres still no change, as for dashboard rattles seems to be poor fit and finish, mines the same, one rattle i did manage to stop was the lower glove box making a noise by putting a piece of blue tack between box and dash hope this info helps a little

the AURIS gearbox /clutch does not clunk. If you have just bought the car so take it back and tell them to fix it. It is still covered by guarantee.

My 2007 Auris is quiet 95% of the time. The only time its noisy is starting from cold. After that it is rather refined, not as quiet as my AUDI was but then it cost a lot less.

The ride is quiet and well controlled but it is NOT a sports car. If the suspension is banging and crashing then either stop driving over holes in the road or take it back and complain.

1st gear I agree is too low- so just start off in 2nd gear- problem solved.

Brakes- the brakes work fine, it is easy to bring the car slowly and smoothly to a halt.

Sounds like you bought a lemon.

forgot to mention had the squeaking brakes as well, got them to put modified pads on front, and they also grinded the rust off the lip of the disks which they said was causing noise at low speed without applying the brakes. work done under warranty, but had to complain to customer support at toyota.

Thanks for your input guys, I've had a look on the internet and it seems that the most likely cause of the juddering when coming to a stop is warped brake rotors as the steering wheel does shake a bit or possibly worn pads/discs. Although its hard to believe this wasn't picked up when the car was checked over prior to sale, I'm going to mention it to them when it goes in for the wheel alignment next week.
