Calipers! :-(

My NSF caliper has decided to give up the ghost today. Drove to work and back and the wheel and disc were very hot along with plenty of brake dust covering my alloy. Tried to give it a clean and grease tonight but no joy. I know the brake pads are really worn but I don't want to put any new ones on until the caliper is sorted. Has anyone else had this problem and what is the remedy apart from an expensive trip to Toyota............again!

Zeising calipers is quite a common problem.

1]Take it to a brake specialist to check over and advise if it's just the calipers or calipers, discs and pads.

2]Thank them for the advise and get a quote for the repair job.

3]Phone Brakes International (I will post the number later if anyone else hasn't) for the parts quoted (or equivalent) and ask them to include delivery costs to your address.

4]Order the parts and fit them yourself - easy as pie!

Just remember to replace per axle and not per side (i.e do both fronts not just the driver's side)

I went this way around with my MR2 and it cost me £90 for the front discs and pads. Instead of £280 from MrT.

Seeing you are a goldie, also contact Fensport. They offer an exchange deal on calipers where they will send you a reconditioned part in exchange for your buggered one.

There may also be some other Brake discounts in Gold that I may have missed.

There should be a "How-To" on this forum somewhere on how to do the job, if not, I will post one when I have more time.

Thanks for the advise. I got Toyota to sort it as I need a new water pump fitting anyway. They're just going to clean up the caliper and replace the seals. I do need new discs and pads but I've already ordered them from Fensport and will fit them myself when they arrive.
