Buzzing From Fusebox

Drove SWMBO's Gen 2 yesterday and noticed a sort of whirring/buzzing sound coming from under the fusebox area. The sound is there all the time the car is in ready mode even when the engine is not running. it is very similar to the noise you get from the brake pump priming when you first turn on but louder and it remains on. I though it might be the coolant pump that primes the system from the vacuum flask thingy, but it stays on (and I think that is on the other side). Is this normal on the Gen 2 ? :ermm:

Sounds like somethings failing. Is there a leak in the system causing the pump to continue pumping?

Noises don't always come from where you think they do.

If there was leak in the brake system, a sensor should have detected the lose of pressure and raised a DTC?

The UK spec Gen 2 did not come with a coolant storage tank, which I think would have been located at the front of the car, behind the bumper and in just the right place that a front end collision would require its replacement.

I guess I would try doing the following:

Did you remove all loose objects from storage compartments, glove boxes, on the dash, etc?

Did you try switching off the A/C?

Did you try switching off the Audio system?

Did you try the different ACC modes?

Did you open the bonnet?

It's not the a/c compressor is it?

I know that makes a real loud buzzing noise on my car when the a/c is first turned on on a hot day. Apparantly the a/c draws about 4kw on full load and I was quite alarmed when I first heard it. It does settle down once the car is upto temperature.

Try turning the a/c on and off and see if that stops the buzzing.

Switched off Climate/AC (although I don't think that's electric on the Gen 2, is it?)

Switched off Audio

No loose objects, the car is stationary.

Opened the bonnet and the sound is coming from under the passenger side fuse box under the bonnet but there doesn't seem to be anything underneath the fusebox in that location, could it be resonating on the inner wing from somewhere else.

I guess from the replies so far that it's not normal then ?

(SWMBO says she hadn't noticed it).

No warning messages on the display.

The inverter coolant pump is just in front of and below the fusebox, you should be able to see one of the hoses going down to it just behind the left headlight. It does run all the time the car is on.

Was the car subject to the recall for the water pump?

It's had the new pump recall done, I though it was on the other side. Sounds like it could be that.

It may be that I'm just used to my Gen 3 being totally silent once the ABS has primed.
