Chuffed to bits that the wee Rav sailed it's MOT today. Was in the Bilprovning garage for less than 5 minutes and they can be quite picky!...Suffice to say the Zafira failed! hahaha Turning out to be great cost saving benefit compared to the Zafira!.......going to change the plugs, air filter, brake and tranny fluids this month as a wee treat! hahahaha

Happy Easter one and all!

5 minutes  Not much of a check can be done in 5 minutes

If that happened here VOSA would be knocking on the door before the examiner had the car off the ramp!

Kingo

A kick of the tyres, make sure you`ve got a steering wheel and your off

Mine passed too, but I had to wait half a day :D

VOSA now just print your MOT on normal A4 paper.......Are things really that bad in the UK?

I had an advisory for a small dent on my rear bumper? Really where? You should have seen it a year ago

I know Kingo....I was shocked.....but the ironic thing is the Bilprovning is owned by the Government here! They opened the monopoly up on testing for cars a year or so back but I have always stuck to the Government owned garages for testing. The MOT check here is so casual compared to the UK tests now!...Basic stuff....they have it up on the ramp and have a peek underneath but nothing like the UK! Some times you can be lucky other times they will go through you!

BTW PM'ing you shortly for a quote on those parts.

Cheers

The Inspeccion Technica de Vehiculos (ITV) test here in Spain is conducted in a network of state-operated testing stations.

It's quite impressive. Most stations are very large industrial units, consisting of between two and four test "lanes", each fully equipped. The largest lanes can accommodate a 44-tonner with trailer, in a soundproof enclosure! There's also, usually, a dedicated mini-roller-installation just for m/cycles.

The ITV test can be booked on-line, day and time chosen. You arrive in the car park, book in, pay (currently c.€42 for a 4x4), and watch a large display screen, which calls your reg.no. and gives you a Lane number. Drive round to the start of the lane, and the first of up to four inspectors puts you through emissions (no full-throttle test for diesels any more) and sound-level checks, engine-bay (including fluid-levels), belts, lights, VIN-number authenticity, wash-wipe, horn, beam settings, sometimes towing electrics (if fitted), etc. Then on to rolling road for brake test, and lastly . . . The Pit.

Positioning the vehicle over a clinically clean and brightly lit inspection pit, your inspector then hands you a walkie-talkie, and disappears beneath the vehicle. First front, and then rear wheels are positioned on steel "wobble plates", which are activated to push and pull the wheel laterally and vertically in all directions. Swivels and suspension bushes are thus checked. Exhaust is checked for leaks, plus brake piping, hydraulics, etc, and a check on underbody corrosion.

The results and readings for each part of the test are automatically logged as the test proceeds, and at the end of it all you get a print-out of all the figures. A Pass gets you logged as a checked vehicle (Police use), and you are obliged to display a windscreen ITV sticker. A Fail, and like the UK, there's a reduced retest fee if you re-present within a week or two.

New cars need a first ITV test at 4 years, then every two. At 10 years old, tests are annual. Caravans are first checked at 6 years, then every year. Interestingly here, commercial trailers require their own test (separately from the tractor unit) and have their own red registration plates.

Chris, that sounds like a very comprehensive and efficient process  I wish MOT cert was needed to be displayed in UK (and same with Insurance)

I think there have been mutterings in the UK about both lengthening the gap to 2 years from 1 year, and also to start MOTs from year 1 or 2 instead of year 3 - who knows!

Those pics of the Spanish testing joint looks similar to what they have in IKEA land too! Here you can book on line...the test costs 300sek ....about 30 quid.....and a retest costs you 20 quid if required.....you get a month to fix any faults before the retest. You have to do it every year after your brief is 4 years old...I think, then annually after that.

Cheers
