Anybody know how much a new key is for a T4 Prius?

I expect the stealers want an arm and a leg!

I do have a spare

Is it a smart key or an ordinary one? I paid £126 for an ordinary one including programming.

Thanks for the reply......It is an ordinary one, fortunately.

£126 seems a hell of a lot of money for a key.....how can they justify that??

Is there a cheaper way to obtain one?

Yes, it does seem a lot and ,of course, it is, but bear in mind that it is electronic and unique to your car.

When you order the key , you have to provide the log book and a separate proof of identity (usually your driving licence) then after you've paid

the key is ordered; about three days, during which time records of the car are accessed and the mechanical key is cut. When the dealer

receives the key you have to take your car in (leaving your old key) and the new one is programmed, this is quite a large slice of the cost.

As you say it is expensive (one contributer on this forum was quoted £300) so it's worth shopping around.

One other thing, it is possible to buy a key on e-bay for about £40- 50 and programme it yourself. Google for instructions, good luck if you do

this, I never had the guts, but if it does work, and lots of people say it does, then you've saved a tank of petrol.

Hope this helps you make up your mind.
