Well after 3 years (and 50,000 miles on the clock) of largely happy Yaris ownership, I finally decided to get rid of my '55 Yaris as the clutch was on its last legs as was at least on set of bearings, so rather than mess around spending on all that, I traded it in for an Avensis. i do miss its nippy character but am more than happy with the Avensis that replaces it.

Clutch was on its last legs after 55k? what did you do to it?! My car has almost done 100k and no problems whatsoever and most of the parts are original parts apart from the brake pads.

Bah, you're not trying hard enough! I can wear out my clutch in 20k!

(It's all the stop-start traffic up steep hills I'm always stuck in )

Here is a little tip. When you're in traffic or at the lights, put the handbrake on, put the gear in neutral and take your foot off the clutch. Move away when the lights are green or when traffic has moved on a fair bit. Regarding hill starts, same applies. Handbrake, then put the car in gear, bring it to bite, release handbrake and move off. Simples! That way your clutch lasts a lot longer and costs you much less if anything at all!

My ex- used to always sit on the clutch in my Yaris and it drove me potty!

I didn't drive the car from new, most of the wear was done before I got it. I was more surprised at the bearings going at that point. I would expect a good 100k+ prob nearer 150k before bearings begin to go.
