Installing Reversing Camera To Prius T4 Gen 2

Hi guys

Got my PRIUS gen 2 T4 a few weeks ago and want to install reversing camera to it that connects to the car screen (like in T Spirit)

There are few DIY installation guides on the web, but I cannot find any information regarding camera format.

I got cheap PAL camera of eBay and it worked, but not very good:

• Image is black and white
  
• Image is slightly distorted
  
• Camera is too slow: image comes on after few seconds I have been reversing and when going forward takes time to go off the screen
  

So, my question is: does anyone know the original camera spec OR good alternative to original camera:

• Camera format: PAL or NTSC
  
• Line resolution
  

I know that USA PRIUS uses NTSC camera, but I have read somewhere that UK uses PAL, just need to confirm which one, but I lean towards NTSC.

Promise to do a proper guide when I finish and happy with mine, installation should only take about 2 hours.

Camera Specification update

Ok, after a lot of internet browsing and reading different forums, I have found camera specification that should work with facelifted Prius Gen2

Specifications

Effective pixels:656X492

lens angle:170 degrees

Resolution: 420 TV Lines

Shutter speed: 1/60s-20us

Waterproof: IP67

Minimum illumination: 0.2Lux

Voltage:12V

Operating temperature: -40 to +80 RH95%Max

TV System: NTSC

Apparently Prius screen is one of the older design and only accepts this camera, not like RAV4 for example that can work with a few different camers.

Off to find one and try one, will post an update as soon as.

if you can find the camera module for it that would certainly make it easier to choose between earlier T spirits and the later models. Have you tried any scrappies for bashed in T spirits see if any have the modules left in them.

Hi guys, second cheap alternative camera is ordered from eBay, hopefully this one will work better, will report in about two weeks.

As for original, they are about 450 brand new and around 150 of eBay if you can find one, I tried to find it from car breakes but had no luck yet.

quick update.

Another camera arrived last friday and also didn't work: image is black and white and badly distorted.

Do not buy something like this

Camera must have NTSC-J (japanise version)

Apparenlty, there is one that definely works, but for some reason I can only find it in Russia

model: Pleervox PLV-CAM-170CV5

So, will ask a friend to bring me Pleervox PLV-CAM-170CV5 from Russia and in the mean time will try to soucre original camera, part number 86790-47020

I was always under the impression that the lower spec models had a different display with a lower resolution to those with sat nav/ reverse camera.

Ok, after managing to fit cruise control onto a 2010 Auris HSD T4, I though it would be nice to add something onto my 2006 T4 Prius - a reverse camera should do the trick. I'm in the early days of investigating/researching this. So for the moment, I have accessed the hidden menu of the MFD, and it has the Camera Check greyed-out. Does this mean it is set-up to receive a camera signal?

I popped the trim off the boot lid and can see wiring looms - I'm not sure which connections are which (need to do some more investigation/research). Does anyone know if there is a pre-installed wiring loom on the T4 running to the MDF/dash area?

When I did my Gen3 camera install, the head unit was happy with either PAL or NTSC.

Has any one found any more on this as would like to add reversing camera to my 2006 t spirit prius which must have just missed the standard fitment .
