Rav 4.3 Trip Computer

Ok So second filling of the Rav's tank tonight, another 466 miles recorded on the trip meter :D, Bit Puzzled though.

My first filling I put almost 42Litres in which filled it Brim Full (It having a 1/4 of a tank left), The Trip computer told me I had a range of 450 miles. . .Ok . . . So this morning the Fuel Light came on after having done 450 miles and the trip computer was telling me I had a range of 26 miles, Bit of driving around to and from work, over to the stables, then round 3 Shell garages locally to find no bloomin' VPower diesel in stock anywhere. Finally filled up with Total Excellium

Right, Trip Computer was telling me I had a range of 6 miles, and I was expecting to have to put a lot in it, but it was brim full after only 50.4Litres.

Now I know that these things are only guestimates, but by my reckoning I had 10Litres left in the tank (It is 60L isn't it ??), so when the light comes on does anyone know just how much fuel is actually left in the tank? Again just an approximation, I'm not one to run it so low that I would run out (Although for some reason it does normally happen just once with every change of car I have).

Still, very pleased with the economy, trip computer is reporting 44-45MPG on the same routes that I was doing in the old POS, and getting 450 miles to a tank full rather than 300 with the bigger tank (65L) of the POS

Nice economy there :)

My scangauge tends to give me a predicated remaining range of about 100 miles more then the on board computer is telling me, so similar to your experience. Although scangauge assumes ALL tank is useable, so somewhere between the two.

On my RAV4.2, I could go upto 100 miles safely after gauge showed empty.

Out of interest, how accurate are you finding the MPG on the OBC? Mine is about 3% lowered then actual, AND the ODO also reads about 3% lower then actual distance, so the REAL economy is noticeably better then indicated.

My low-fuel light seems to come on a little early as well. I'd say it's around 80% gone 20% left when it first cones on.

I.e. if you've done 400 miles when the light comes on, you "may" have 100 miles left. I'd be happy doing 50 miles after the light comes on, but after that you are pushing it and risking running on fumes/dregs!

The orange light is the most consistent guide.

When my low fuel light comes on I have about 4 gallons (15 litres) left. And yes, it's a 60 litre tank.
