Hi all,

I am buying a SR180 from a private seller , it has done 31000 miles and has 3 Toyota service stamps with the last one being done at 28500 miles and mot done in Feb 2012. I have seen some negative comments about mpg so what do you advise i check to ensure i get the best results. I have seen the one about cleaning the egr valve. Is there anything else ?

Check for any coolant white splatter marks on the black plastic engine cover! This could mean a HG failure that is covered by a 112k/7 year extended warranty as is the oil consumption issues with the 2AD power unit. There are lots of TSB and in ChalieFarleys guide to these engines.

Oil/air and fuel filter change is a must when you buy a new car. You have to use a low ash content oil like Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 or Shell Helix Ultra Extra that meet the C2 specs for the DPRN particular traps. Shell V=Power will give you more mpg and some use a tuning box and K&N air filter to help the turbo/engine breath better.

Gearbox oil has to be a straight 75w grade oil like Silkolen Pro SRG full ester oil. EGR valve clean is well worth it and so is BG244 in the fuel. The MAF could prob do with a clean using some electrical contact cleaner or CRC spray that is designed for that job. eBay is where that can be found for less than a tennor.

Enjoy the car...
