Gave the car a polish up today ready for it going on Auto trader as soon as the private plate is off and on retention...

Machine used was a Makita 9227CB. Had to use the cheap paint thickness gauge as the Defelsko is out on loan..... MMmmm

Polishes .. Menzerna...

Car was very swirly despite careful washing techniques..

After two stage polish...

Best part about removing the swirls and scratches is it allows the blue flake in the paint to reflect through...

Charlie, that,s one hell of a finish, perhaps when the present circumstances have sorted themselves out Please can you give us a definative guide to how to use a Polishing machine. I,ve got one but am too scared to use it.

Hope you get a sale from all this hard work You certainly deserve it.

Regards Clare

Always more than happy to help as best I can with using a polishing machine..

There are so many machines though and types.. I believe You and Kev have dual action machines or DAS as they are known.. I have a DAS but its a completely different machine to the Rotary machines I favour.

Thing with a DAS is its just so much safer to use as strike through or burning through the paint is not easy to do like it can be with a rotary machine.

Think along the lines of how much more efficient a DAS is over doing it by hand and then think a rotary is again that much faster..

There are two types of polishing as I see it..

One is to put a cracking shine to the car and greatly improve and refine the finish.

Second is Paint correction which achieves the same results but takes away all of the minor scratches and most or all of the swirling marks...

For paint correction in the true sense it really has to be done with a rotary machine as achieving the same level with DAS would take absolutely ages if it can be done at all.....

Paint correction requires the use of a PTG (Paint thickness gauge) as it is risky to do it without.. Still possible but risky.....

EDIT

Sorry the above does not read right !!!

Clare it is possible to remove swirling marks even heavy ones... But with a DAS is is very hard and can be tiresome...

A rotary has a heck of a lot more bite. It also produces a lot more heat which is another thing to beware of..

The way to get more bite from a DAS is to choose either a harder pad or a heavier cut polish or a combination of both...

Dont be afraid of having a go with You machine !! Post up a pic or two of what it is You are about to polish so I can see the condition and colour of the paint.. Its age is also important..

I will then do My best to suggest a combination of which polish and pad to start with.. I will even send You some sample amounts of the huge collection of polishes I have so You can try before buying a bottle of the stuff..

The paint on Japanese cars is notoriously thin. The pic above shows under 6 microns. Audi typically has 8 microns Japanese cars are painted with again notoriously soft paint. This is a bonus for us polishing as results come fast. But care has to be taken as using up the layer of lacquer is faster.

This is why I need to know what it is You are about to polish before I can suggest the pad/polish combination...

You CAN do anything with a DAS that a Rotary can do. It just takes longer !

I know the trials and tribulations you have been thru with your car, but for all its faults if i had somewhere to store it and a use for a second car I would honestly buy that off you, I believe the right dealer with authorisation from Toyota MUST be able to put your car right, and it is a great motor and a credit to you,, As Anchs says someone is going to land on their feet with your car and for someone who originally wanted a T180 but couldn't afford one i wish it was me, do NOT let it go cheaply Charlie, if I am thinking along those lines then i am sure i am not alone, Good luck Charlie you deserve it  Stew

Think you and Don are correct.

Charlie, you have said that you would not sell it to anyone on the forum, but actually, if you did put it up for sale here in the For Sale section, then anyone who did get it would have 100% knowledge of what they have bought and any potential risks and make their own fully-informed decisions, so as an honest above board transaction, which I know you are after, you could not get one more then that IMO

David. I will be putting the car on Autotrader and I will inform any perspective owner of exactly the current status with the car......

I have today been to Dunfermline Toyota and got the correct oil for topping up and done just that. It is now exactly on the full mark..

Coolant is now half an inch under the full mark so as to rule out it being overfilled and that causing it to expel any more coolant as a result of being overfilled ...

I have made some good friends here on the Forum quite a few who I chat with on the phone.. So I really hope the next owner does not turn up here but as said I will inform of everything to date... That way I wont be looking over My shoulder waiting for a new owner to arrive....

I was as most of You know going to sell anyway. Main reason its still here is simply because I have so much going on at the moment I could well do without the complication of selling and what to buy right at this present time,, But now I'm at My wits end with the car so it has to go.. If it doesn't shift on Auto trader its destined for the auctions....

Well, best of luck with the sale, and even in the auctions it will sell well I reckon, to a non-franchise retailer looking for a quick turnaround car with no prep needed, it is ideal.

Thanks !! I'm a firm believer that first impressions sell a car and if it looks like its been well cared for it will attract more potential buyers ..

Plus to be honest I find machining a car quite relaxing and enjoy it to some degree .. I needed a wee spot of thinking time and doing the car got Me away from the phone and provided just that.. So two birds with one stone really.. It will take another 2 days to finish the car though...... Only managed one side today !! I intended to just give it a buff over but as usual got into it and could not cut corners and do half a job..... Barmy I think the word is !!

Stonking advice Chasmin for the likes of Wee Clare (WC....?) and Webblers...."only managed one side today".....it's a bloody big job, regardless of Aygo or Landcruiser, that machine polishing stuff.......as for saleability, if ma wee mate had but two testacles, I could have convinced him by now to purchase it.

Still aspire to your and Bluevortex's standard of finish.
