Almost new Aygo MMT - 2 or 3 months old, 1000 miles or so. Usually garaged overnight.

I work a couple of nights a week and a few weeks ago, I came out in the morning, turned the key, and it went "unk". Best way I can describe it is like having a near flat Battery and the starter will engage but the Battery hasn't the go to turn the engine over.

Released the key, tried again, vroom ... no problem.

Same thing next day.

Then generally OK for a while, though one day it did it and took a third go before it started.

Then one morning I came out, it started first shot, I drove a couple of miles, stopped for petrol, got back in after filling it - and it "unks" again. So not particularly a cold engine problem.

But the last couple of weeks since then it's been fine (touch wood), even though we've had some frosty weather.

I don't think the lights are going dim, so I don't think it's a Battery or connection problem (I have pulled at the battery terminals and the starter connection - (I think; lump round the back of the engine?)) and they seem secure. (It first did this a little after I fitted a sub and I wondered if I'd retightened the neg post connector, but that wasn't it.) So a starter motor contact seems the likely culprit, but not much point in visiting Mr.T since it's behaving now :(

Has anyone had anything similar happen?

Is there any known issue with these?

Sounds like the Battery or possibly the starter motor not engaging. If its new and under warranty, take it round to Mt T.
