First of all welcome..

Having owned my Auris 2.0 D4D for over a year and half and had done about 15,000 miles

The only fault I have had so far is a leaking rear boot water gets in from rear passenger light have not got around to fixing it yet. Brakes are known to squeak, copper grease quietens them down but does not affect braking performance. Crunchy gearbox when cold but an oil change can help an easier gear change.

Its spacious and practical for a small family, handles well no body roll with decent tyres. Chain driven engine so no need for cambelt change. MPG localy 38-40MPG On motorway expect 50MPG if driven sensibly. EGR valve as on all modern diesels gets soot build up so best to clean it for best performance and reliability reasons.

Buy one with full service history, owned privatley do a HPI check and you cant go wrong. Stay away from an ex company or lease car likely to have been abused.

Compared to a VW they are much more reliable, but the VW ECU remap for extra performance gains Toyotas cant be remapped but you can buy Performance plug and play boxes. They need cambelt doing as well at 60k and dual mass flywheels known to fail.

If your coming from a Honda VTEC you will miss the engine sound if its a B series or K20 engine because I do :( but you will appreciate the torque of the Auris. If you do short local journeys its pointless owning a diesel, look for a CIVIC 1.8 I-VTEC suppose to be good on fuel.

I have the 2007 2L D 4D T Spirit. My average MPG is about 47mpg, but I dont get a chance to do any motorway runs. So far it has been very reliable ( I have had it for about 2 years) and very cheap- no costs other than some normal servicing.

SO far plan on keeping it for a while. It is quite quick and if you have installed a go faster chip it can go a LOT faster. the instrument layout is very good and driving position is spot on. Unlike some other modern cars. Once you get sorted it is rather comfortable.

It starts first time every time even when down to -12-15C.

Complaints- its noisy when cold but I notice all the VW and BMW'S diesels have the same problem, It is quite quick to warm up but remember it is a 2L diesel and a heavy lump.

The ride is good- a bit too much body roll, but I like the soft smooth ride.

read the many reviews on here and look at the honest john website- not many problems compared to VW- they can be a nightmare.

Changes- I upgraded the stereo and installed reversing sensors- my wife doesnt like reversing without them.

I tried the Honda Civic but I think the AURIS is better.

thanks for the imput. yeah i lucky in the fact that im keeping the civic as a toy and the auris becomes my daily. i do about 70km a day no open road so i do travel a bit. for now i think im going to leave it stock, but later will look into remap or chip.

@ aurists01 you say at 60k it needs cambelt you mean cam chain? and why is that needed? thought that chain driven motor dont need that to be replaced?

i will miss the VTEC every day you are right. it a little D16z6 with a crower stage 2 turbo cam and JRSC kit. but a 52l tank only get 380km per tank.

yeah the car is coming into town this weekend and it looks like i will take it. its at a toyota dealer and has FSH but im not sure of its past where or what it was used for. but i think it will be a good buy. thank for all the imput.

Cambelts are due to be replaced at 60k on most VW diesel engines, and the flywheels do fail after 80k but all depends on driving style.

The Toyota Auris 2.0 D4D does not have a cambelt but a chain so it is not due replacement unless a rattle develops, clean oil is the key to look after the turbo and the timing chain. Overall its a pretty good car with little niggles, buy one not much for fun but it will not dissapoint you either!
