Who Pays For Used-Car Work, Dealer Or Toyota?

Hi all

Quick question for anyone who knows:

A main dealer acquires a part-ex car that needs a fault fixing before it can be sold on. Who pays for this, is it the dealer or Toyota? Assume that the fault would normally be covered by warranty, obvious to a mechanic but not dangerous or urgent.

I guess my question is, is the dealer better off by getting the new owner to identify the fault and repairing it under their warranty than they are fixing it beforehand?

Cheers!

Are you asking about a car that still has a Toyota warranty (ie. less than 3 or 5 years old) or one that is beyond that but would be given a limited warranty by the dealer?

Hi mike

Second option, i.e one that's out of manufacturers warranty but would be covered by the one sold with the car by the dealer

The dealer. The car becomes the dealers property when purchased, anything left on an existing used car warranty would be void when it came in the dealers hands. He would have to pay
