Hi everybody, i'm a newbie to this site and need some advice.

My wife's Avensis (2003 1.8 vvti manual) has been playing up and has thrown up a P1300 igniter circuit malfunction No1 code.

I've managed to find out what an igniter is and what it does but i need to find out :

A) How many are there, i've been told one per coil pack and one for 2 coil packs!

B) Where in the engine bay are they situated?

C) are they difficult to change?

D) and finally how much are they roughly.?

Sorry to ask so many question in my first post, but i'm getting real ear ache over this!!

Thanks in advance.

The ingniter is a part of your coil and your model has 1per cylinder so you have four ,check your plug condition as when electrode is badly worn it can fool the ecm into thinking the coil is gone and if left untreated can damage the ecm due to back voltage on the igf circuit.happy motoring

Being a bit thick here, but i need to be certain as i want to replace it, are you saying the igniter is part of the coil pack that sits on the plug. So new coil pack = new igniter?

Ye thats it .but if vehicle has a dead misfire after coil replacement the ecm has been damaged due to back voltage caused by badly worn electrode on that spark plug .swap coil from another cyl and see if misfire changes cylinder
