Warranty Expiring Soon

I know this has very briefly been covered and tried searching for it but haven't found exactly what I intended.

I've owned my IQ for a week now and love everything about it.

My question is this:

I have just 2/3 months of manufacture warranty left with the car and need some advice in terms of getting all recalls fixed. I have checked safety check on Toyotas website and all is ok. But on vosa website noticed mine could be affected by the brake recall. My brakes aren't as good as I hoped being discs all round so when I book it in, do I rattle off other issues that I know aren't right? Such as:

Gearbox, 2nd gear problem.

Knocking from passengers side when going over bumps.

Mpg computer.

Basically need advice on things I could get replaced under warranty that are common problems/recalls/issues with 2009 IQ's.

And of course, I don't want to take the biscuit.... Or should I?

Thanks folks.

Tell them everything you think is wrong and that might be covered by the warranty.

Get your Fuel gauge or whatever replaced now, as it will not get done later.

Get the mechanical things checked and repaired or replaced.

If the gear linkage is wrong now, it is not going to be getting better by it's self.

You Brake recall should have been done and needs to be done if not already.

(yours is built before the recall vehicles i though.)

If your Brake Discs or Pads need replaced now, then that will likely need to be from your own pocket, because thats normal consumables.

When were the brake pads checked last for wear,

did the last service even see them being checked?

is there anything marked/ticked/writen on the service record or invoice?

You are going to need the brakes working properly for the car going in for its MOT.

You dont say how many miles your car has done, but why not give a visual inspection to your discs and pads yourself.

You should at the least know how worn your pads are.

If you dont know what to look at, then its the one time it migh be worth pulling into a 'kwik flik dancer place' for a free inspection.

Obviously do not give them the work, get a mechanic to do that.

iQ brakes stop an iQ pretty well,

i would not drive a car that you feel as suspect brakes without knowing someone competent had looked at them.

DOH, that blows my Kwik Flik fitter idea right out the window.!!

Cheers George.

Its cover 12,000 miles from new, has been serviced and MOT'd Feb 2012, apparently the pads were replaced and b/fuild was replaced (says it on service book). This work was done just 1,000 miles ago. They seem ok but not as I hoped. Maybe the pads are still bedding in!

I never knew the fuel gauge was on recall so thanks for that. Its full up to 120miles then after half a tank, plummets, so that would maybe need seeing to.

Will book it in next week and see how it goes, just wondered if anyone else had issues with them not replacing thing/ignoring recall faults.

Sorry the fuel gauge is not a recall item.

I thought you wanted the AVG to do over 60mpg.

The fuel gauge is just not accurate.

7 gallon tank or so and a gallon up the pipe.

so 32 litres or around 37 litres of petrol in the car.

if you are getting 50 mpg then 7 gallons takes you 350 miles.

so 120 miles and you have used over 1/3 rd.

When the gauge shows half it does then appear to go down quick to the block flashing.

I would just go by that if you have a full tank to start you need petrol agaIN by 300 miles later.

No way to fix the design of a tank and a gauge really.

all the best with it, but i would get the gear linkage/change sorted, and clunks checked out, engine mounts or suspension, brakes working, but then the MOT showed them as meeting the required MOT standard.

? Was this a car you bought from a Toyota Dealership that was a local car, sold and taken back in by them,

MOT'd early & serviced & sold?

Check those pads then and see that they were fitted when there was good quality/condition discs on, or they could already be gubbed.

I never trust Dealers and invoices, a visual check can often tell if the parts and the invoice matches.

I would be getting the car checked on the fact you bought it from them as well as Toyotas warranty.

all the best

george

PS What is the weather like in Fife,??

I am off to Crail at 11 am.

Thanks again mate!

Weather is ok, sunny but bit couldy. We're actually heading that direction soon for a drive lol!

I'll book it in and see what I can haggle. Gear linkage is a must, same with a slight noise from passenger side but heard the IQ's suspension is quite clunky anyway?!

Cheers again!

Aaron, have you checked the rear seatbelts are not 'clunking' on the plastic panels? There are two cut-outs in the rear corners, one each side, where you can insert the metal part of the seatbelt. This usually holds it in place and stops it from flopping about and making a noise. If your back seats are in the upright position, this may not be a problem. We keep ours down for shopping etc, to fit in the back. BTW, Welcome to the forum and congrats on buying an iQ. We've had ours since late September/early October -can't recall which. It's a brilliant little car, just so pleased with it, and that we didn't go for the Smart car, too many compromises after owning a T-reg Mondeo.

Thanks Bob.

Yeah, what I've done to resolve the rear belts is put a 1cm x 1cm sticky pad behind them. Its so small the belt covers it and it works a treat... At the moment anyway. I'll keep that tip for good measure!

Had it for 1 week now & we're loving it. On its 2nd full tank and got 340miles on 1st and its sitting on 350 just now with 2 bars to go (it'll be flashing soon)

Has anyone ran it when the last light flashes? (We're unsure if there's still fuel left so just been filling up when it does.)

With the MPG you are achieving you should easily be fine for another 50- 60 miles once the block flashes , before panic needs to set in.

I like to brim it when as near to when the block flashed just to see how much petrol it will take.

Best i have done with a 1.0 Multidrive with a full tank/pipe till you could see the petrol & untill the block flashed was 388 miles.

So i had used just 32 litres and i thing about 6 litres left still to use.

(that was not hypermileing, best MPG i have ever done in the 1.0 over 100 or so miles was 67mpg)

Thats positive to know. We brim another litre in when it clicks so probably the same as you've mentioned. Noticed the exhaust sounds very slightly like its blown. When you walk around the back of the car, sounds like the backbox but it looks descent condition. Heard thats another niggling issue? Sorry to ask questions... Better than posting 5 topics!!
