Alternator Removal

I was wondering is it a big job to remove the alternator from my 2007 Avensis D4D.I'm getting the charging light and fuel filter light flickering on and off lately. It came on a few days ago for about 2 or 3 minutes and hasen't come on since but previously stayed on and the Main Toyota had a look at it and tapped the brushes and the light went out but they haden't the time to go through it slowly and (i didn't have the cash to finance it either) im afraid to go long distances especially at nightime. Everything looks tight and secure on what i could reach.,and terminals on Battery are fine .Any Ideas on the best way to remove it without the aid of a lift.I have jack stands etc.

No lift required - jack stands are all that's required. It is a simple unbolt/bolt-on procedure. The downloadable Service manual fully explains what's involved:

(in the folder called 'starting & charging pdf')
