hi, i have a 2000 avensis cdx. love the car, but recently noticed that water is pooling in the spare tyre reservoir. the trunk itself is not damp, and the water doesn't seem to be coming from the underside of the car. someone suggested it may be related to the sunroof. anyone have any ideas/advice about what the problem could be?

i have the same on my 02 SR found that water runs in from the seal in the boot. When you open the boot the seal springs up and kicks out the pool of water, causing it to dribbles into the boot via the plastic cover over the boot catch.

Not sure how to solve this but its only an egg cup full so dont think its much of a prob....if it builds up to much you can always remove the rubber bung in the well of the boot to let the water out

I had the same problem and so did my dad. Except there was quiet a lot of water. All I do is when I am cleaning the car I just pull the bung out in the spare wheel recess and let it dry out for 20 mins or so. I have a CD stacker in the boot, but it hasn't effected it.. Don't know if it is a design fault, maybe it's why the bung is there?

I had the same problem and took off the boot lid seal, and refit it. Don't fit it in exactly the same position. (I can hear some bright spark saying "do you mean fit it in the engine" or something like that!) 'Rotate' it 180 degrees.....it work for me .....dry as a bone for the past 2 years after this fix. Leaving the bung out os not really a fix, especially if you have a cd changer!

Hi Nezerr,

If I recall correctly, you have to remove the plastic bit close to floor level that extends either side of the locking point. Its about 60 cm wide. Then you can remove all of the 'soft' seal that contacts with the boot door. Change its position and reinstall. Hope this helps. Joe

Hi, I've just bought a 51 Reg sr, and found water in the jack storage compartment. Took it back to the dealer and they said it is coming through a vent in the inner rear wing. They said the rear bumper has to come off to access it. It's booked in next week so hopefully it will get sorted. A friend of mine has exactly the same problem on his GLS saloon. Anyone else had it?

Hope you get this as it is a reply to an old post. I have just discovered water in my 2000 Avensis GS Hatchback, but in the other side to the jack (about 1 - 2 inches collected). Did you get yours sorted, and if so was it due to the vents leaking. if it is I'll have a look at mine as a the moment I am unsure as to where the hell it is coming from.
