Hello,

I'm new to all of this so please be nice!

I'm going to look at a used Yaris, 1.0 VVT-i Colour Collection 3dr in the next couple of days, its an 05 plate and has done 49,000 miles.

Just looking for any opinions/tips/advice etc and anything I should be aware of or looking out for when I look at it, bearing in mind I know very little about cars!

Thanks in advance for any help :)

The Yaris is usually a good and reliable car which should not give any major problems

It is always a good idea to check that it has a full and complete service history

It would be a good idea to take someone with you that has a bit of mechanical knowledge of cars if possible

If that is not possible you should at least check that the tyres have plenty of even tread left on them and that the oil level on the dipstick is correct

If possible also check the levels of the brake fluid in the reservoir and the engine coolant level, both are in see through reservoirs under the bonnet

Yaris's are prone to a few stone chips on the front end/ bonnet but should not be too difficult to touch up with a paint stick available from any Toyota dealer

Good luck and welcome to TOC :)

Very nice car. My wife had one (05 plate) for over six years. The only trouble she ever had was that the high level brake light bulb would go black on the inside of the bulb and be very dim. Easy to change the bulb, pull off the cover, single 10mm. bolt on the offside of the car. Instructions are in the handbook. Only use the correct bulb which is 16 watt. do not be tempted to use 18 or 21 watt, the lamp will overheat. Good Luck, enjoy your new car!

Regards Geoff Peace.
