Auris Hybrid Driven

Not sure how man people still read these forums. Well I suppose I'm back in an auris

My mrs works for a group of garages so is in all sorts of cars. This time its a new auris hybrid.

After a week and a fair mileage it's not bad actually.

I sold my t180 and bought a 335d which is my daily driver. I came back and found the hybrid on the drive and took it out for a spin. I must admit I initially thought it was broken. I just stepped out of my car which is pushing 350bhp and 700nm of torque so you get used to small throttle inputs,

I drove the auris with a small throttle input and it uses the electric motor which is quite slow indeed yet very economical. Initially I hated it. I drove the Prius gen 1 a few years ago and I remember more torque from its electric motor.

However, after driving it for a few days myself its actually not a bad town run around which is what the mrs will be using it for whilst she has it. I can really see the benefit of the hybrid now. It's auto cvt takes a little getting used to. It's not bad when you need the power altought a little revvy and harsh.

Mpg was the key for me, it has returned 62mpg over quite a high mileage, including town and a road, dual carridgeway. I thought the mpg would plummet out of town as the 1.8 engine would be working much harder however the electric motor does keep blipping in with some power to save fuel.

Not bad at all and 62mpg makes a lot of sense. Shame you loose some boot space for the batteries I presume. The drive isn't really my cup of tea, considering what I drive daily. I'm a big engined man, I like v8s. But I can really see the appeal of these for around town. That Honda version seems like a great alternative.
