Can a Timing Belt Just Snap before the required Mileage Change?

i get my car regularily serviced i even got my Timing Belt Changed a while ago ,

bit even my Mechanic never thought i needed it repaced so it had nit reched the requried mileage

Well, without having a look its hard to say but my guess is that slapping a new belt on and doing a compression test will tell you if your valves are working.

The leanburn engine is non-interfernce engine. If it snaps you 'should not' have engine damage.

The 7AFE engine is generally easy on the timing belt, and most components are driven by auxillery belts.

If the timing belt snaps well before the 60000 mile - 5 year schedule, then it was either: not fitted correctly, a cheap brand of belt fitted, the tensioner has seized, or something in the engine has seized - like the oil pump.

The tensioner should be free to roll and have no play.

If everything moves well, then fit a new belt and see if the car will run.

Just to let you know the Mechanic rang me, he said the Timing Belt did snap, he had to put on a Tensioner , and tighten a few things he also is doing the oil change and filter that it was originally booked in for, he is Charging me 250 euro , i think that's a fair price ???

seems a fair price to me. As long as you are happy no-one else matters.
