Hi Everyone,

I've just traded in my 2007 VW Touran for a 2008 Avensis and Im delighted to say it's been great in the few days that I've had it.

I originally went in to look at a passat but saw the Toyota which had a much better spec and all the room I required plus it had lower miles - the car is a joy to drive and it has plenty of power under the hood which was sadly lacking in the VW.

The only downside is that it acquired a stone chip in the middle of the bonnet after about 15 miles!!

Anyway I thought I would introduce myself and hope to speak to you soon.....

Cheers...

Hi,

I went from a 2005 VW Passat to a Toyota Avensis and have not regretted it for one minute. Admittedly, the Passat was a 1.6 petrol and was very short of power but I just found the car uncomfortable and wearing to drive. The Avensis is quite the opposite and just seems to eat up long journeys. I have a 2.2 but test drove the 2.0 and found them both more than adequate in terms of power. You will be warned about the potential head gasket issue but that is really only a problem if the car is outside the extended warranty period. Regarding the stone chip, if it makes you feel better, I received a bumper scrape and two door dings within a few weeks of owning the car. I’ve given up being careful where I park it and strangely have received no damage since.

Hi,

Passat 2005 uncomfortable and wearing to drive in comparsion with Avensis? And I assume you mean B6 Passat here?

Yes, it was the B6 (1.6FSi model). It's probably a bit harsh to say uncomfortable. I did find it wearing though mainly because of the limited power. I haven't had a chance to drive a 2.0TDi which would be a fair comparison to the Avensis. I had an Avensis as a hire car a few years ago and was so impressed that I had to have one as my next car. Still haven't found a more comfortable car to drive.
