Clutch/dmf Replacement

Hi Guys

My Rav4 D4D at 79k miles is in hospital having a new clutch and flywheel fitted (£1,200 ouch). I have looked at previous posts and see this is not unusual and probably about the right price, however I wonder if I should have realised what was goning on earlier than completely loosing drive with what felt like somethin breaking off.

When I bought my RAV4 D4D my only concern was a vibration during accelleration 1800-2000 RPM indipendant dealer said this was nornmal for a 4WD and I did not know better, having never driven a Rav before. Another sign was a sound like belt squeal in 1st.

About 4 weeks ago something started to rattle under accelleration (I thought it was maybe exhaust related) but then seemed to almost go away, but returned about a week ago though not as bad.

Do you think all these relate to the clutch / DMF?

Thanks for your comment, I did look at the pinned article, and maybe the 'jingling' was what it heard.I do now think my DMF has failed though as it a 2005 55 version hopefully it is not a bolt failure like the pre 2002 versions.

I am hoping the car will be a lot smoother and quieter when I get it back on Friday.

Sorry to hear that, I hope it lasts you a good time yet. Mine has done 6k miles since I bought it, but I don't know how long it was building up to this before that.

If you decide to leave it, my advise would be to take out breakdown / tow to garage cover. I could have broken down in a much worse place than I did, and we have a second car we managed to tow it with. It was quite heavy and pulling away stressed our golf TDI's clutch somewhat, so I wouldn't want to tow it far!
