Hi there, I have a 2005 d4d avensis, sometimes when I start the car it goes into safe mode, usually if you switch it off and restart it the problem clears. Sometimes it takes 5 or 6 goes to get it though. Occasionally I get a loss of power when driving but dropping down a gear and revving it clears this. Anyone any ideas whats happening here??

Hello, it could be a dirty fuel filter or water in the filter has it been changed recently? Another reason could be the EGR valve that is sticking or blocked, there are tutorials on this forum showing how it's done. Neither of these fixes will cost much if you do it yourself or ask an local independent garage to do it.

Thanks for the prompt reply Pete, I changed the fuel filter a few months back, I will try the EGR valve, I have seen the tutorial on here. thanks again.
